Here's a few pics from last Sunday's annual Tree Chop show. Called the Tree Chop cuz the club putting it on used to convoy up to a Christmas tree lot, buy trees and take em home. Bout 10-12 years ago or so it turned into a winter car show, usually about the mid point in December. Several pics follow, so hang in there a bit. This pic of a friends 31 full fendered roadster. Nice car, but the Flatty with C-4 is what does it for me.
Here's a very nice Caddy that struck my fancy. It has gloss paint, but it's hard to tell as the pic was shot about the time it started drizzling. Never did get a front shot and I shoulda.
I thought this wagon was from Santa Barbara, but turned out it was from Oxnard. A light rain started about 0900 and it rained all day. These guys went home about the time everyone else left. No hood, no wipers, hope they did ok.
[ QUOTE ] One of my all-time favorite cars. [/ QUOTE ] C9, I have to agree with you, I don't know what it is about those Olds that looks so good but they're one of my favorites as well...
A very nice, very well done Deuce roadster. Darned thing sat out in the rain most of the day. Most folks covered what they could, but strangely enough more than a few coupes and sedans sat through the rain with windows rolled down. Go figure. I like the black steelies on it, thought about it for a while for my 32, but I think I'm gonna knock out a more 32 oriented hubcap for my 5 slot mags and pull the ones that are on there.
This pic of my friends full fendered 28 roadster. It sat out in the rain all day and the interior stayed dry. Even when the rain was blowing a little west of straight down. Kind of an interesting day to say the least. We got there about 0730, got coffee, later on got a good breakfast - they had some good vendors - a light drizzle started around 0900, about 1000 heavy drizzle with some light rain mixed in. Most people hung out until it was obvious things were gonna end early. Course we had tickets for the donated prizes - which were pretty good - tickets for the super raffle as well as for the 50-50 drawing. Most times my friend CK wins something and I don't. Which is ok, but it's for a good cause. After quite a few of the vendor prizes were given out, CK asked me if I wanted to leave. By then we were getting a little wet, couple more hours and our jackets would have been soaked through I'm guessing, but I suggested hanging out until the 50-50 was drawn. It came and went, then they started drawing tickets pretty rapidly and posting numbers for the vendors prizes. I won a half off ceramic coat your headers prize. Gave that one to CK cuz he can use it now and I can't. When all of the vendors prizes were drawn, the super raffle started and both CK & me were lusting after the rollaway with box on top. Another guy won it, then they called a ticket I held. It was for a TV. It was nice, but I thought it was for a small portable. Turns out it was a nice 27 incher and a nice surprise as well. The 27 incher could have been fun trying to get home in a roadster. A friend came to the rescue with his Cherokee though. He took it to CKs house for me. Then we hung out at CKs watching the ball games and draining all the low bottles in his liquor cabinet. Interesting thing about all this is I never win anything when I have my car at a show or run. This time I leave it home cuz I was on a bit of a business trip. Geez ... wonder if that'll work next time....

[/ QUOTE ] Henry really got it right with the Model A top and windwings. I drove mine for years in all weather. Everyone thought I was nuts driving a roadster in a snow storm. I seldom got very wet. On my newer cars tho you crack the window an inch in the rain and 1/2 the interior is soaked in seconds. I like the chevy better than the olds, but the chevy needs the olds windshield.
[ QUOTE ] how is that corvette going to carry a tree home?? [/ QUOTE ] Geez Hellfish, you're a bit of a medium ... spooky dooky doo.... The red 58 Vette seen right over the top of the RPU pic was one of the guys in our group. For a while there we thought we could carry the TV in that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Smokin Joe, right you are. My 32 with stock style top that's cut down a touch to match the 2" windshield chop overhangs just like the A's top in the pic. In fact, both of our cars have Lebaron-Bonney top kits. I've had a little bit of water come in through the windshield bottom side corner during heavy rains cuz I cut the weatherstrip wrong. Shoulda cut it on a 45 on the top and bottom pieces and glued em together or at the least overlapped them somehow. Next time I will. Even so, I've spent the day running the coast in light to moderate rain in the roadster and no problems. I see guys make their own top frames for these cars and stretch the material over the - in most cases - non-folding frames making a quasi Carson top. No padding, just a lift off. The great majority of them do not have any overhang to speak of over the side windows - which should perhaps be called openings - and I'm guessing the water runs in like nobody's business. More than likely they were after the shade.
