    Hello All,

I just install a new intake with 3 deuces and everything was working fine until the rear carb started leaking gas from the top around the pump rod. I was thinking maybe too much fuel pressure, but looking for your ideas? photo 3.JPG

Do you know what the fuel pressure is? Could be as simple as something in the needle and seat.

You only need a few pounds of fuel pressure with that setup.

Float level set too high, saturated(sunk) float, needle and seat not sealing.

I was told by an old-timer that 2 1/2 psi max on Stroms' else they will puke.......but if you are only seeing it on one carb, it could possibly be trash in needle and seat or bad float (ditto comments above).

2 1/2 psi fuel pressure , beyond that the needle and seat are dirty or the float level is off. I hope you have a fire extinguisher and good fire insurance running that red plastic fuel line.

  8. I agree! DONT RUN THAT FUEL LINE!!!!! It could spell DISASTER!!

Why don't the other carbs leak if it's fuel pressure? It sounds like the carb in question has a problem. Float setting, dirt in the needle and seat, bad float? If it came on suddenly, I'd suspect dirt in the seat. easy to check. I can think of no reason for the fuel pressure to suddenly change only on one of three carbs.

Getting the fuel pressure right is a base setting. There well may be other issues. If everything is in working order, the first two settings should be float level and fuel pressure. Troubleshooting should include those two things first.

What's the issue with the fuel line. We ran a lot of it in the 60s and don't remember any problems?

Ditto above . First thought would be dirt under needle valve as it only on one carb.
Re the red fuel line ,if you can remover the 60s there were no parts made by inferior off shore quality manufacturers. Down here we are not allowed to use it, but I have found a way around this by warming the plastic and sliding it over steel fuel line tube ,it closely resembles the same look.

As one that actually had the old red vinyl hose back in the early 60s that was outlawed at the track, this is not the same stuff. The old stuff got very hard and brittle and would leak fuel over the hot intake. the new stuff is very rubbery and pliable. If it were as dangerous as the old stuff there would be multiple law suits by now. Except for the red see through quality the old and the new are nothing alike. My new stuff changes color pretty quickly but that's patina right? I can understand people repeating the old fears.

  14. As the proud owner of a couple trouble free tripower units. .... I'm with these guys. Gotta start with issues on that one carb. Then check your pressure.

If fuel presser is off a little once that one needle is popped off it may drop pressure enough to not effect the other cards.
