ok all you ford guys- i need to know if the speedway tri power 3 carb adabter will work on a small block ford like a 289 or 302?? called speedway- they didnt know! i think the adapter might stick out too far in the front and hit the distributor.??? has anyone ever put one of these on a small block ford? if so throw up a pick - it would make me a beliver!----------------thanks
I can't answer your question, but I have an opinion. I would think that thing is just for posing. Can't imagine it being better in the performance department than a four barrel.
I think that those are a wast of your $$$,they don't work well, are too high, flow poorly making idel not so relieible, but will cost you with in a $100 or so of getting the real thing anyway, carbs cost same and linkage cost the same, fuel block and lines cost the same, yet you have what looks off and runs off too. Go for a real 3x2 intake, used if ya need too.
It all depends on what intake manifold you have. On a 302 with a Edelbrock Victor JR intake manifold (single plane, high rise single 4 bbl) you have about 4" from the center of the front bolt holes to the back edge of a points style distributor cap. If that 3x2 adaptor needs more than 4" (which it looks like it does) you would have to run a spacer that's a minimum of 3" tall with a high rise intake like a Victor JR. I wouldn't run one of those 3x2 adaptors, as stated before they don't work that well. A real 3x2 intake is the only way to go.
Speedway sells a 3-2 manifold for a Ford. Couldn't find it in my catalog but found it in the internet.
When all is said and done do you really want something that says "Speedway" under your hood! They already told you they don't know if it will fit but will sell one for your SBF. These aren't made by application, they are one size fits all. The only one I have seen that didn't look stupid was on a B&M 144 Blower.
Like fuzzy said, I would get the intake. Along the same line several years ago I saw an article about using the autolite 2100 carburetor on a tri power set up instead of the Holley's......their plentiful and simple.
Eldebrock makes a reasonably priced 3-2 using Holly 97 - 94 ect . It would work a lot better. I have a Blue Thunder with Offy adpators to Rochester 2Gs for my Falcon and have under $1000 in the set up.
now that is cool- but hows the distrib. clearance? it looks like it would not have any clearance problems----------goufos
just go ahead and post away without reading what the original poster said. Geez....you're worse than I am. His question was all about whether it would fit. And....contrary to YOUR opinion, it is NOT cool - not at all. Just a cheesy piece that will have most car folks walking away shaking their heads.
Just funin here guys... Turn it the Speedway adapter upside down and put an AFB on it,for the closest thing to Fuel Injection,,,,,
You are obviously as goofy as your name. Do you think some company spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make prototypes, and production runs, R&D testing and then Duh, it won't fit past the distributor? I swear the majority of you FNG's should stick to making plastic model Hot Rods. And Duh, " it looks like it wont...." what the hell does that mean? Obviously my first post that I deleted suggesting the template was way over your head, your in the wrong hobby kid. After Christmas you should be able to pick up another Game Boy to replace the one you broke.
I think the adapter and a pair of used hemi head gaskets will be the perfect setup myself. Check the last page of this thread out: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290160 starting at post #341 then scroll down. Then think R&D and chuckle with me.
Pony carburetors. 2100 Autolite carbs.......I love the looks. Somewhere I read an article that told how to modify the carbs to use them on a tri-power set up.
well it is true! called them again today- they have no idea on the clearance ! as far as testing- its universal part! ---goufos
traditions was talking about testing on an actual intake manifold built to be bolted onto a specific engine. At the risk of sounding politacal one could actually buy an edelbrock intake, they are still cast here in the good old US of A. Even if you keep an illegal alien working by doing so you are still keeping an American in a job.
