hey all here are the numbers i found on the trans which appears to be a saginaw 3 or 4 speed. on the case: M 3962645 beneath that is: E 6 1 beneath that is: 28 or 26 on the tail shaft is: 3873886 GM 14 this came with a 71 c10 and 250 i got and am trying to sort if i can use it in a 41 chevy coupe with the 250. thanks as always for any insight.
Probably too wide to fit under a '41 Chevy no matter what it is. An S10 4x4 rear should be easy to find and will fit without a lot of hassle.
If it has two shift levers, it's a Saginaw 3-speed. Three-levers is a 4-speed. Both good medium duty trannies. jack vines
yeah i finally found the info and i believe it is a 3 speed. i didnt see any grooves on the input shaft so not sure what the gear ratios are. i can either drop this whole thing into the 41 or drop about 300 and get the adapter and cluth setup for the t5 i have. i dont mind spending the money if its going to make a whole hell of a lot better - i just plan on around town driving with the occassional long cruise. 300 for a 5 speed isnt going to break the budget but if what i have in the 3 speed will be close to as effective i may just go with it and sell off the t5 or keep it for a later day. any thoughts?
I had a Saginaw three speed behind the 250 in my 48 for years and it worked great. It was a late 60's full syncro unit. Here is some info that might help. http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cat...rans_reference_gm_3_4_5_and_6_speeds_v24.html
