Check out the Golden Light Cafe for drinks, food and I think they have music now. It has been around for decades and one of the oldest establishments on R66
You have to go see the Mayor of Wellington Texas, Bob Owens . He's the owner of Owens Salvage. He's the tallest midget in Texas. https://www.owenssalvage.com/ Tell him I sent you and you want the grand tour. On the way you can stop in Shamrock and check out the old filling station. http://www.texasescapes.com/TexasG***tations/Shamrock-Texas-Tower-Conoco-Gas-Station-1935.htm
Traveling I-40 thru NM from Cali? Stop at Russell's Travel Center at Endee just before you got the Texas border. I think it's exit 369 Clean bathrooms and a really nice free of charge car and Rt 66 museum ... I know, it's not in Yellow, TX The old air base East of Yellow has a Model RR club with a layout of the Santa Fe line across the panhandle and old PanTex locomotive with courier cars out back from when they used to move nuclear warheads by rail. Good RV museum there and Palo Duro Canyon is in the area. Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Oh, and I happened to think that the Big Texan Steakhouse does have good food. All their desserts are made on site, fresh daily. Carrot cake has all the food groups. If you are really hungry 72 ounce steak is free if you eat it within the allotted hour
Cadillac Ranch is just west of Amarillo, right on the south side I-40 frontage road. Sent from dumb operator on a smart phone
