I asked on the barn but basically got a no answer. I have the parts to go from 2 carbs and Edmund’s intake to 3 carbs (stromberg 97) and an offenhauser intake. My question is can I still use my edelbrock heads with center water outlet or do I need to switch to different heads? Looks like the offset generator will hit the radiator hose? Anyone got photos of this setup? Google produces some photos but none of them seem to show the radiator hoses actually installed.

First question should be, is the engine "big" enough for three carbs?

Physically fitting them on has been done many times. A combination of which generator mounts and hoses to use could be figured out. Maybe some other 40 Ford owners will show pics of the kind they successfully used.

Thats like 500 CFM on a flathead. It would have to be fairly hot, not just warmed over to handle it. It's going in a 40 Ford?

  4. Most flatheads will run better with duals, I haven't even played with the jet sizes yet on mine since it actually runs pretty well up here in the mountains, maybe a bit rich, but I really cant tell the difference between here and sea level. If you have a big cube block, port work and an appropriate cam then you could step it up to a triple, otherwise I would leave it be.

Well if looks are desired I’ve always heard to run either the middle or the two end carb(s) and block off the others. Will this actually work?

Oh I should have given specs. Will it be over carbed? I hadn’t actually thought of that. Haha.

    40 flathead
    Bored I think to 3 3/16
    Isjy max 1
    Edelbrock heads
    4” crank

and I don’t care about looks. Want to maximize performance and figured I’d give it a go if not too complicated. Mostly because I have the parts to do so. It was recommended that I run 043 jets and 69 power valves.

With that engine size, I think I can understand "The Silence of the Barn".

That’s a nice little motor. Probably run great with a pair of well-tuned Strombergs.

  9. You don't have big cubic inches, so my suggestion is to buy an Edelbrock "Slingshot" manifold - one of the best street intakes there is. You'll still be able to run the generator in the stock location (added bonus). It is a much better performing manifold than any 2-pot Edmunds.

Bonus: Intake brand will match your heads. ;)

Using a solid gasket to block off the cnter carb works just fine . Did it 50 years ago.

IMG_0479.png Sell your three carb setup. You don’t need it and it will be a pain to keep that tamed engine operating efficiently.
If you do want to run three for looks blocking off the center carb with well ventilated manifold runners will work.
I’m running my center carb closed, I’m also running an offset generator on this hot flatty.

  12. Question: It appears you're not running a fan idler . . . so you're either not running a fan or you're running an electric fan?
