I went to that and even though it was rained out and muddy. I still had a great time even though my car got stuck too ha ha ha.
I was there as well but as only as a spectator. The rain as well as the high tide sucked but I saw lots of really great cars. Unfortunately it will never happen again on the beach in California. IMO But there is always Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Florence, Oregon?
My wife and I were fortunate to attend TROG 2016 in our red Deuce highboy roadster. We met kickass natives Kevin "Cyclone" Preciado and his wife plus Bruce Omohundro of Temple City and Nipomo, respectively. Kevin and his wife fed Joyce and me and gave us a history of hotrodding from way back. He drives both SBC and flatmotor powered Deuce roadsters. Bruce (paintslinger@805) recreated his Grandfather's roadster that competed at El Mirage in 1947. Bruce also races at regional runs. Flathead gurus, for sure ! These families are so Kool because they LIVE the lives of true, dyed in the wool, hotrod purists. I miss them. As far as Texas ever supporting a TROG, I doubt it will happen. Our "city Dads" just don't care enough to take up the subject. They are all too concerned with keeping things just as they are. Some real creepy, empty suits. I'm sure the West coast boys will concur. Once again, TROG 2016 was the most fun and exciting event we have attended, even though it was cancelled on the second day. It's something all true rodders should make plans to experience.
I wish we could beam our roadster up to TROG for the next one. Mother Nature and Father Time have taken their toll on these once adventurous bods. DAMN ! !
I was there and will have to say that Saturday was the most fun I ever had running around soak and wet and maybe a bit miserable at times. I had to get on the shuttle with my wife to go back up to the school where the car was so I could take her back to the motel after about and hour in the rain and then reverse the trip but managed to get a fair portion of the parade to the pits and most all of the racing until I just gave out. I ran into my buddy Paul Harper and friend Bill Ross up around the customs on the beach and ran into a couple of other PNW folk I know. I took over 1000 photos over the weekend and Photobucket lost some but the rest are here Photobucket | Gallery A big thing for me was seeing Gray Baskerville's 32 sitting out in the Cheap seats by some daily drivers and rental cars on Friday. No power parking for that car that day. I had read the tide charts for Pismo beach when plans were being made for the event that weekend and thought that they might have a bit of trouble tide wise. Fun times but West coast tide schedules just don't allow the time that East coast ones do. Not to mention storms that you didn't figure on. We had a great time that week and it turned into a real vacation for us besides going to Pismo Beach. We spent Sunday afternoon and half of monday in Moro Bay and worked our way back up the coast to Monterey with a stop at Hurst Castle for my wife. Hundreds of photos of California surf driving down the week before. We even went though the redwoods on the way back. Sunday
Seems like they have a good west coast trog going with the flabob location I think they’ve had two full events and quite a few gatherings there in the last year or so.
That has turned out to be a great one. The taxi way makes for a great short drag strip and the whole vibe of the place has great cool factor. Pismo Beach would have been fantastic if the weather was like it was on Friday all weekend. The rain Saturday and storm Saturday night were the killers. This being Sunday morning with the water still up to the spectator area.
Spent the 70s in dune buggies all over the beach & dunes. I saw this post and thought I had missed an event I want to see. Turns out I did miss it but it wasn't last week. I saw this little racer in a video of the Flabob TROG and I've started collecting parts to build something similar.
On the first one at Flabob the line for T shirts and like was way too long for me. Not sure about the second one - didn't go. But I still have one from the Pismo Beach one.
I'm wondering if I have a Trog at Pismo beach shirt. I think I bought one after I took my wife back to the motel and got back to the beach with the new umbrella (first hand held walk around one I ever owned) that was as much to keep my camera dry as keep me kind of dry. Shared it with some gal WHO was standing beside me at the rail for an hour or so. Now I need to dig though my rod trot T shirt collection.
