  1. I DIDN'T KNOW THE PITS WERE GONNA BE CLOSED, OR WE WOULD HAVE MET. I SPENT ALMOST THE WHOLE EVENT IN THE PITS, EXCEPT WHEN I GOT A PRETZEL...1/2 MILE AWAY!!! FOOD SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE MIDDLE, HAHA.
I'LL BE AT THE GNRS....WE'LL MEET UP.

I think what was meant was not so much the equipment used, but the professional picture takers that line the sides of the track, usually from the start line to the 60' not only blocking the view, but also become targets for errant cars[IMG]

It appears a lot of modern ish monkey motion motor cars are allowed here , a break from true trog spirit from NJ. At trog on the beach in NJ spectators are not allowed in the pits either. I know the pits are often the only place you can get close and personal with the cars , but remember a lot of public have no clue as to how busy it can get in the pits ,and they want to hang all over the cars and get in the way. If you are a hard core hot rodder I think by paying a few $$ to get to the pits you clearly have respect for the racers.

At the previous TROG event in Santa Barbara, which was also run on asphalt, spectators were allowed into the pits. However I can see where things could get crowded and pedestrians getting in the way of race cars as they try to manuever around the pit area and out onto the track, it could get crazy, dangerous even, so I'm understanding of the restriction. But there were a lot of people besides drivers and pit crew in the pits, kids even. It's kind of a you have to be in the know situation: you know the right people, you get a wrist band & you get in. You don't have the right connections you don't get in. I saw one of the motorcycle racers meet his wife at the pit entrance, he told the guy at the gate "that's my wife". She didn't have a wrist band, she didn't get in. On the other hand I watched a guy come out of the pits with half a dozen wrist bands and pass them out to friends that he was with and they all went in. Eh, whatever, everybody can't get into the pits, I get it.

ETA, re the monkey motion motors, they also allowed these at the Santa Barbara race, though they were fewer in number; but at the previous race in Pismo they were not, it was strictly flathead V8's and bangers; all Ford. Personally I liked having the other brands and OHV's there, it made it more interesting IMO. Like the Wayne equipped Chevy 235 in a chopped 34 5W that was a bad ass car that spent the day spanking flatties. Even a Dodge slant 6 in a T roadster. And just to clarify, the flatty's gave the OHV motors a good run for their money and won their fair share of races, and the bangers did well too, I saw more than 1 banger beat a V8. Just my opinion, but I liked it, it made for a much more interesting event.

  6. Different type of event here, than the New Jersey event. Jersey was a whole period correct kind of event, where they wanted to capture a certain era look. This was more of a "Run what you Brung" deal. They were just testing the waters anyways, to see the turnout, support, venue, etc. I agree, maybe there should of been a sepurate amount paid to get in the pits. That might eliminate the people you DON'T want in there.
Just curious.....what do you mean by "Monkey Motion" cars? FYI...there were NO modern cars there.

This was my first time at an event like this. It was great to meet new people and shoot some awesome cars.

    If anyone wants a high-quality file of any of these pics, let me know. 4E634530-F65B-4F11-9B51-8E25AB05E27F_1_105_c.jpeg 14E58540-4330-47DA-9671-A9B734CE2C8E_1_105_c (1).jpeg ED34309D-5E3D-4E93-996D-F88DAEBD61FA_1_105_c.jpeg F58E0074-EDBC-4A5A-941B-5415D5DA20BB_1_105_c.jpeg 03E31C15-39C3-40DD-A21B-56D708B63215_1_105_c.jpeg 38EE427C-E537-47C8-9405-69E8397F46AF_1_105_c.jpeg EF9A85FB-2C74-4F11-875C-72F195325D9D_1_105_c.jpeg 735A7A2E-7B4D-4F81-9B09-590BDAEB9603_1_105_c.jpeg AEE1E235-6D9E-424D-868C-ED3F3453CDA0_1_105_c.jpeg D126F449-0C77-4226-807E-BEFD88F3E113_1_105_c.jpeg 8AEBBE12-1ABA-46C3-8377-355BAA6CB591_1_105_c.jpeg 51A31843-0A57-448D-985E-BA3ECA0411E2_1_105_c.jpeg 561A71E5-FD74-4A7D-88D5-D87C54B0CDBC_1_105_c.jpeg 9514B4EC-A64C-44E8-B68A-506C5101ED1D_1_105_c.jpeg 81A97846-2ADC-4A79-91D9-1503CF7A3E8B_1_105_c.jpeg FE0CB14D-D6D3-44D4-8680-6A9D6B11BB26_1_105_c.jpeg C055C71D-EA8E-46C6-9D41-2A16E160B7FC_1_105_c.jpeg

  9. Me? I had a great time! Glad I got to talk with you a little Bob.
This picture shows my best race of the day. All were good, won some lost more than I'm use to but when I ran Kim in her bitchin' Five window it was almost like we were parked next to each other all the way down. I love a close race, almost as much as I love beating SBCs with my little Flatty. Good times for sure!

As to the pit access questions that have come up, insurance costs and restrictions for the event may have something to do with that decision also along with some of the other concerns mentioned.

Those are OUTSTANDING! Wow, great job! You are an inspiration, I seriously need to up my game. A couple of those pics with the low sun angle you actually used to your advantage to create an effect, how did you do that? I struggled with the low sun angle all day, a lot of photos got ruined due to the glare.
