....they are given by someone you respect. FAB32 and I were talking the other day about trophys and awards. Here are some of our ideas on the subject. Basically, trophys suck...especially those given by people who actually don't know squat about cars....SOOOOO....my idea is to have real awards given by people in the hobby that are respected by their peers....people we admire for their talents, not their positions or social status in life. We both thought it would be great to have some annual " HAMB Picks" of deserving hotrods or customs, that are actually picked by builders, designers, writers, or anyone we think has an "eye" for what we dig.....so here is a couple of my hero's that I would love to see picking a winner....Steve Stanford picking a car for "Great Design".....or maybe Cole Foster for the HAMB " Tin Knocker" pick. The HAMB has become a driving force in the hotrod world, and it's time for this....whadda ya think????....good or bad idea???....or ideas on other respected people we should draft to pick some cars???....(no, not boyd):)

....trophys are trophys.....personally I don't relly care much about them although I do agree that when you get one from someone you admire and who knows shit about what they are doing ..it does mean more.
Does the HAMB need something like this? I don't think so...let the street rodders gather their dust collectors on there shelfs, I'll drive mine!

It doesn't have to be a dust collector....it could be something as simple as a topic on the board....and you, like most of the people on this board do drive their cars, so it would not be similar in any way to the streetrodders.

Some of you may know of Hub Harness - been building kustoms for 40-some years. He was covered up in old trophies, so he kept the ones dear to his heart and donated the rest to the Special Olympics.
Hell of a great guy, and a damn good idea!
Anyone want to follow his lead?

and how many HAMB cars has Steve Stanford or Cole Faster actually laid eyes on?? ....for that matter how many HAMB cars has any of the folks we admire actually seen???

I'd take a few "atta girls" from my HAMB peers over anything else from anybody.

I think our stuff has gotten alot of exposure to Steve and Cole, and many of the other respected, talented, and successful people in the segment of the hobby we admire....maybe not in 3D, but definitely on this board in photos, and text...... HAMB peers are great too, not discounting them....I just thought it would be exciting for a trophy or award to actually have credibility in our world.....not the world of the GNRS...or Ridler chasers. I would compare it to receiving an award from Ed Roth if he was still around...tell me that wouldn't be the thrill of a lifetime.

  7. I, myself, really don't need the ego polishing that comes from trophy gathering. Since I'm not interested in what somebody else has to say about my cars, it's all a moot point. The only comment I ever appreciated was by a close friend of mine. He walked around the car then said, "Much as you fuck-up, you were bound to get it right sooner or later." That said it all.
