Car stuff for the most part is disposable income, and not too many people have it now, or are worried about their jobs, etc. Also, location plays a large part in pricing
If they keep printing money...at the current rate......you will soon be able to sell your car at full price..for just half off........d32
jesus christ thats what your answer was to a question about if its hard to sell a car or not? idiot. jobcorp its not just you. times are hard and hot rods are toys. family, bills, house, daily drivers, ect. ect. all come first.
finished auctions on ebay is not a reliable gauge as how do you know if it sold? or not The buyer and seller have to agree, I would say my coupe is between a 2 and 3 I would buy another coupe like mine right now for 8100 just tell me where it is
On top of everything, I have had one in college the last 4 years, one starts next fall. I don't see a time when I'll be clear in the foreseeable future. Probably croak first. Had a bunch of neat cars, kills me to even list them, 52 Buick Woodie, 38 Ford Humpback 2dr Sedan, 62 Volkswagon Woody, and the last to go, a 53 Studebaker Coupe. I'm happy I still have my 55 Chevy Station Wagon, this is the beach after all, and it's a cl***ic beach car. Hope my second daughters college doesn't take that one. I'd hate to be a H.A.M.B.er with no H.A.M.B. worthy wheels! www.highspeedmotorsports.com
by that comment i think you might have a hard time relizing that in a recession your car isnt worth what you think it is.
if the quality and desireability warrants the price, it will sell. Too often, part of that equation is missing. And it all becomes even more amplified during tough times.
like I said, show me a comparable car and I will give you 8100 all day long and more....I refuse to give it away You would be same
Ive been cleaning house . I have knocked myself back to my tool truck for work and my 2 55' chevy projects. Sold EVERYTHING else , at fair prices i feel for both parties. I didnt come out smelling like a rose but i got to make a little money. Just wish i could reinvest it all in a model A coupe project instead of paying bills.
However i am getting a kick out of craigslist. I love watching for old car ads to pop up with in the post weeks of the barret jackson auctions . There are 2 57 chevy m,ore doors on there right now , Just about rusted into nothing , i mean ROTTED down to the dirt for the bargain ba*****t price of 1750 apiece , or you can catch a deal at 3 k for the pair................... No thanks lol.
Someone mentions Kelly bluebook or carfax and I just hang up or tellthem its not for sale to them but right now parts are selling cheap so I am buying up some stuff and having good luck at the swapmeet with them.Bought a 16 car trailer yesterday for $500.People are just having to sell alot of stuff cheap just to pay the bills.
you keep taking every post personal, people are just telling you whats going on in the world. calm down big guy im sure your car is worth a million dollars.
Your reading more into my posts- i am not upset at all. Not looking for sympathy just getting a feel if this is going to last awhile supposed people in the know say it has been over for awhile now
Well to give you some ideas on Prices ive been getting . I sold a ROCK SOLID rust free 47 International kb5 for 1k and a 52 Ford F5 for $700 that was a nice solid truck as well . I found that the higher end stuff is alot harder to sell . But like stated before , doesnt seem to have hurt the 1-3000 dollar range.
Yup. I have about 4 old cars I'm getting ready to haul off for s****! Said I never would, but worth more made into toasters the.n anyone would ever pay...
I rarely sell anything, I'm a hoarder, but the last two big ticket items I've sold went to Europe in containers.
Been trying to sell one for a while now too!! They throw me a low ball number and wonder why I'm offended? I'll keep it before I give my **** away!
i am in retail and nothing i have in my store cannot be negotiated and very few people are afraid to ask for a deal
There is a line that is getting further and further apart....This economy and the US is becoming one for the rich or one for the poor....the middle cl*** is getting squeezed out like the manufacturing in the US....hope you got a gold mine some where! For the time being , I'm going to try and hold on to what if got and feel fortunate!
According to the census bureau, 55% of Americans are middle or upper cl***. That leaves you with about 200 million potential customers. I believe most private sellers are still asking way too much for their "toy" cars. Cars without needs or stories always sell for a good price, projects don't, unless they are very cheap. Sellers, please get real!!
sold my 54 nash statesman for $2500 it worked out to about $0.50 cents on the dollar. It ****ed but it did get it gone
You also will have a lot of trouble trying to sell anything this time of year . Taxes are due and many out of work and with all the cold weather in so many places that doesn't make anyone into thinking about buying a hotrod . When the weather starts to break and people get out side , selling a hotrod will be a lot easier to sell . Retro Jim
I think a lot of it has to do with what you have for sale. If it's a bit rough and is typical of a lot of the cars I see on here, well that customer base is the one that is probably hurting the most, as many guys on here are always singing the no money blues. If the folks that would be interested in your car don't have any money, it's not going to sell. On the other hand I sold my COE Ramp truck for more than fair money to a guy from Sweden. My Deuce Coupe, which was a GNRS cl*** winner just sold for top dollar, and it wasn't even for sale. Also just sold a 34 Coupe project, complete and running but needs paint, interior etc for $25k, pretty good money for a Gl*** Body, original frame, original steel fenders etc. Now my Model A Coupe is going to be interesting. It is a bit rough but a driver ~ I think it will be harder to sell ~ may wait before even trying on that one. I also know of a Model A RPU that was a complete running stocker that just went for $15,000 It's all in what you have to sell.
I think Retro Jim nailed it. When the weather gets warm and tax returns come back, then is the time to sell. Right now, with 3 feet of snow on the ground? Not even worth trying. I bought a bunch of stuff really cheap this winter and it'll be for sale this spring. Old cars are seasonal. My dad has a friend who used to buy 4 wheel drive trucks all spring and summer and sell camper trailers, then when fall came around he'd sell all the trucks and buy up campers. Made a lot of money that way, I know guys do the same thing with motorcycles and snowmobiles.
?? Not sure I get this. Please explain. Since KBB, for instance, presents grades and reports on what the national sales are for that model in that grade, why would you hang up on someone wanting to start negotiations there? If your #2 car is so much better than the average #2, why isn't it a #1? In the same breath, you seem happy to ****** up all kinds of parts at below book value, but denigrate anyone not seeing the value in your valuable property. Can't have it both ways. And, remember, even 10% unemployment means 90% employment. But around here, it sure isn't car buying weather yet.
