That's another good point, maybe 1 is oiling correct and the other 7 or 15 have issues. That would make a bunch of racket too.
We don't need a video with audio. Listen to the words written above. Your going to have to tear into things like or not to find out things. I'd rather pull an intake first rather than pull a trans. Tell you what. Instead of a video can you tell us how much preload you've put on that lifter trying to quit it.
I was thinking a bit about what I brought up. What do you guys think as to testing for cracked flex plate. Remove all 3 converter bolts and push converter into the pump till it bottoms. Using a pinch bar reach up between pan and flex plate and put pressure on the plate. Turn motor a bit and check again till you make a full rotation. Think that might create the sound if it does in fact have a crack in it? The Wizzard
I've found loose converter bolts to only clatter till put in gear. Once pump load is on the thrust keeps it from ratteling back and forth in the holes. The Wizzard
11 degrees out flywheel solid no issue. checked mounts bell housing pretty much everything external start it no sounds in park put it in gear hold the brake bring it up to 2500-3000 here comes the noise. would piston slap wrist pin make noise at start and in park or neutral?
If the flex plate is cracked they crack like this. You can not see it when Trans is installed. There are some YouTube vids on diagnosing the sounds Look at them
This is a 2 person job, have one person hold the car in gear and get the noise going. The other listens at various places with a wooden dowel held to the valve cover, bellhousing, maybe the fuel pump. Hold the other end of the dowel close to your ear.
^^^^^ Off this topic but I have to ask. I've seen others post up a quote but not write anything like here. Is this a new way of saying X2 ?
He did write something, you have to click on it to expand it. It happens like that because he wrote his reply inside the quote tags, so his comments became part of the quote.
Experience has taught me about the flex plate problem. I've never been able to diagnose it before pulling the engine or the trans. Of course I do most of my work by myself, I don't have the luxury of someone close to help. I have to agree with all the others, it's time for a tear down one way or the other. Good Luck!
What kind of torque converter you got to go 3000 rpm with the brakes on? Maybe it your brakes creeping...... no! JW
well its been interesting morning drove it noise came back from about 25 miles out called my buddy had him have a trailer ready cause I dint know if it was going to go.when I was on the phone with me nothing all the noise went away runs like new tried to get it to clatter like before and I cant. now going with maybe a oil p***age blocked and just came out of it I don't know.all I can say it runs like new the sound is gone.I don't have a explanation I sorry wished I did. thanks for all the help from everyone and there input something comes of it il be back on thank you
I'm happy that your happy. And yes, do get back with us. Lifter's, if that's it can be tricky little devils and hide for a while and bam !, what back in your face. Did you read the post here about maybe the fuel pump ? Just another thing to keep in mind down the road.
Fuel pump and lifters are not affected by engine load. I have a lifter in my 301 Chev that suddenly sounded like a big end. restarted it and it slowly reduced to an annoying tap, I am hoping it will also go away. JW
If you actually believe a motor issue can cure itself, Now would be a real Good time to invest in Triple AAA. The time you actually need your Pal with the trailer he's going to be out of town. The Wizzard
I've got a tappet like that in the car shown in my avatar. It isn't going away. I've been shut it up just like you for over 3 years. Lifters these days are not make equal and the ones I have a notorious for that. But I'm just as stubborn as that lifter. I'll let him show me where he is in a crowd before I go looking for him.
drove that ****er all day no noise. I wont be surpise if it come back but where did it go.im guessing wrist pin put its self back spot . il lined my self up with a new engine when it comes back hope not for a while I need to get caught up and it flipping cold here to change a engine in a shop with out heat
Do you know what different engine noise problems sound like? Here a little light taste- reads kinda like bubble gum and pop corn and no where near complete. http://www.onallcylinders.com/2014/...-quick-guide-diagnosing-common-engine-noises/
went and changed my engine for a new one. problem: piston skirt broke bottom of the pan.still ran like new .I decide get it taken care now.
