Now that I've got my car drivable (electrical and front end rebuilt) it has trouble starting after it has been on and running for a few minutes. It starts cold easy. I have to crank on it and give it a pedal stroke or two to get it going again. But once it cools off again, it starts right back up. I have a 600 edelbrock carb on it. Any one have any ideas? Or places to start? Thanks.
Never mind. I'll try some of the suggestions in here and post up later if I still can't figure it out. http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=133398
Manual choke or electric choke on the Edelbrock 600? Also Edelbrock (aka Carter AFB) Carbs are very heat sensitive,do you have a heat insulator spacer between it and the manifold?
Hey Jeff. It's a manual choke. And I have heard about them being heat sensitive. There is an aluminum spacer between the intake and the carb, but I don't know if it's an insulator or just an adapter plate.
If it's aluminum it is likely an adapter plate the manifolds that fit the 239 needed one to run a Holley or AFB,you will need something like this:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-9265
I got the insulator gasket in the link. I looked for other 4 bore gaskets, but they don't sell them (Except in a 2 pack for dual quads). Do you see a problem running an open plenum type gasket on an intake with 4 seperate bores?
I don't think it would be an issue as long as it is sealed all around the base,I have done it without a problem in the past.
I put the insulator gasket on and leaned the carb out a lot. Followed directions from edelbrock's youtube video and she runs like a champ now. Starts up easily after sitting hot for a while and it idles much smoother now too. Oh, I also cleaned all the gunk out of the fuel bowls and jets when it was off. Think that helped with the rough idle. Anyways, thanks for your help Jeff.
