I have a 95 1/2 ton Chevy truck 5 speed and I wondered if anyone has ever tried putting one of this in a car? I'm thinking of putting it in a station wagon.
I an putting a 95 Dakota 5spd in my 1937 Dodge truck. It is a AX 15 the same one that is in a Jeep. I have a feeling I will only get a year out of it. I believe it should hold up well. What are you doing for a speedometer?
Trucks generally have a taller frame than cars. Do some measuring, see if it looks like it would fit. As far as the shifter location and length, it might be appropriate for a 1930s car, but not a 1950s car....cars got lower as time went by, on the later ones you sit less upright. Trucks didn't do that so much.
My very first thought would be, "what are the gear ratios" ? most trucks have a fairly worthless first gear for damn near anything but pulling stumps.
Is that the NV3500? Ive got one here at the house. I know it'll fit in a 53 ford with minimal cutting to the floor. Ive seen pictures on here of a couple model A's using them.
Some half tons had alum. case and had ratios very similar to T5. Just a little bigger, couldn't recall the model off the top of my head.
Its what I put in my 40 PU. Fits nicly. Same mounting point as TH400. Shifter comes out in the right place.
Don't put the AX-15 down - they have got some strength - they were used in many medium torque applications from being behind diesel engines through to v8 mopar engines. First gear is a bit low but that allows you to use a better diff ratio for great cruising esp in 5th gear
I believe 345winder used one in his 34Tudor. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/my-34-ford-tudor-project.710239/
That is a nv3500. good first and a big overdrive. I would check the shifter location for a non truck application
