I have a 49 chevy pu that i,m building a into a mild custom. I have seen pictures of pu,s with the bed enclosed and a deck lid . none of the magazines ever run a feature on this modification and i was wondering if anyone had done this to their truck or had any helpful ideas or pictures.

Build a frame made of 3/4" square tube, skin it with plywood that's been upholstered, add hinges. Boom, done.

I built mine from firing strips and 1/4" plywood glued and screwed together. I did not want any mounting holes in the body so it sits on a framework inside the bed. The plywood was covered with a modern tonneau cover for a newer P/U stapled on the bottom. I have about a 100 bucks in it total. One thing that I discovered is that the 1934 bed is not perfectly straight so I'm glad that a wood plane could be used for a better fit. A steel or aluminum frame would have created a problem. It just sits in there at 70 MPH with no problems. It makes a nice table for snacks at the shows.:D
