Yeah, I wondered if the door thing had been mentioned earlier but didn't have time to review the thread and see so that will serve me right :)

    Keep up the good work!

  2. It wasn't mentioned in this thread, at least I don't think it was. Talked about it here in the shop quite a bit.
You are missing some good stuff though!

  3. Thank you!
    I've had some help.
Praying helps a lot, both with tact & staying out of jail and some skills.
A Good woman, some well trusted mentors, magnificent build threads here and the best tequila !

    Lmao !
Paint always helps and ties things together. I see it with paint but not really a color if that makes any kind of sense? More of a uniformity that paint gives.
I really like what 66gmc did too.
My goal is to have all of the metal work, fab work, all finished and ready for bodywork by Christmas. There's a big list yet but it's doable.

Ahh, I get it now. I thought when you said it had been discussed earlier that you meant in this thread, not in your shop (but I have been watching this thread since the beginning, honest :))

Strange as it sounds but the pink version, for some reason I can't yet comprehend, looks pretty good to me and I never thought I would be ever saying a pink car looks good.

  8. I know exactly what you mean.
It grows on ya' quick because it looks good

Black looks good on it too but We all know the black paint maintainable sufferings. Gold can be a contender too with white frame , fire wall, wheel wells, some engine chrome and pipes.

Wow, the color choice will be a tough one for this one. How about another couple of ideas, Dark root beer or maybe a British racing green ?
    The blue does look good.
What are the plans for a back window ?

  11. We're someplace between 280 and
And 30 the upper left quadrant.

My plans for the back window are that I'm going to make it. Probably pull a curve off the quarter windows

Instead of calling that "Pink" I'd call it Raspberry! :)

OK please please please do not take this the wrong way - I love the car and nearly everything about it. Yeah I said nearly....but before I say another word - please understand I would bite my tongue on any other build but having NAILED so much of it - you have RAISED THE BAR & I figure I ought to at least mention the one small single tiny thing that seems wrong to me....the zoomies look off to me - just when viewed from the front/side the lower transitions don't seem to flow. Now from the back view - they look great!
Having said that...it's awesome - tremendous vision and execution. Very inspiring!!!!!!!!

Don't know if you caught this additional info-
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...t-bends-8-12-bend-radius.870525/#post-9602289

So I'm sure you noticed that I only have 1 side tacked up,
I'm not crazy about that little kink in the bottom either. Not much I've figured out yet how to get around that with the materials that I have been able to locate. So far what I've figured is that to get it to flow better, each tube needs a progressively larger radius or remove the twist as they enter the collector. Removing the twist isn't something I want to do. So that leaves changing the radius of the bends. I haven't got any further on that yet.

image.jpg I always like how boat headers looked far above any car header I've ever seen however they are backwards in a few ways and ugly on the back side. Here you can see how each pipe has a different degree and different length straight. Ok so with a long radius bend that flows over the frame you loose some liberty , at least I did when I did it the first time.

I could change the radius with some pie cuts and adding or subtracting pieces but I think that will give me more goofy kinks in each pipe's curve. Although I haven't tried yet but that's just my guess. Maybe distributing the kinks evenly will clean up the overall flow, maybe it will disrupt all of it?

It's very hard to capture the 3 dimensionalness ( is that a word) of the pipes in any picture. Like I said before, you're invited to stop by and check it out in person.

  19. Black almost always looks good on anything. Nothing in the world looks better on a car than a clean black paint job, the problem is that you can't keep it clean for more than 5 mins.

    Thanks !

Those are nice for sure and In the color wheel zone. Maybe ill see if they can do a burgundy version.

coupe1.jpg coupe.jpg I can say I am GLAD you ground the paint off, seeing how is was hiding under it.

  21. It did not make the trailer ride home un****hed- it surely would have never survived a trip around the block under its own power. Certainly some of the ****tiest fab work, bad patchwork engineering, and BS cover ups ive ever seen under some really nice paint.

  22. Only had a couple hours today.
Simple hammer form and flow formed with a blunt bit in a muffler gun set on the lowest setting. Took longer to get the cardboard templets just right :)
The bend came out much harder than I thought it would but I think it will work. If not I'll try one by stamping method.

Just a thought and a couple magnets

what is "flow formed with a blunt bit in a muffler gun?"

  24. Here's the muffler gun.
    http://www.arizonatools.com/muffler-guns-130/
A small pneumatic hammer with a blunt tip i.e. not chisel tip.

Flow forming is when you flow the metal into or over a form. At 3000 blows per min it actually looks like the metal is "flowing" like a thick liquid.

The key is to use the lowest setting and take your time. After the metal was loaded in the form it took less than 3 mins to make one of those. 9000 hammer swings if you feel up to that:)

I'm thinking I would stick to the more traditional slot style rear window. The panels you have held up there with magnets ( that style of double rear windows) are more suited to the 39-40 era IMO.
And by the way, I really dislike the red one posted above with the whitewalls (shudder) and the goofy looking chromed front frame kick up.

  28. Couple more hours.
I didn't like the hard bend, so I ran the router around my form and then made 2 more. Much better now. Whipped up the next hammer form x2 for the complicated part. That's a rounded edge that is on an edge tapers from 3/4 to 1" and the bottom of the window has its own drummer it's dancing t, why I don't know but I'm following it too I guess. The router takes a big part but there's lots of sanding to get the tapers in.

The cardboard templates show the existing window opening in white (complete with V shape and bobble) and the new size in brown with all mismatches smoothed out. 2" less from the V :)

So why make new Windows, because if the short windows don't work I won't be out much and the originals have been worked to death after trying to survive 80 years.

  29. I don't know about all over it cuz I'm not sure if I can fix it.
I need the bends and can't find them reasonable.

Those panels are the first 1/4 windows :) so I figured if they stuck on the back window I won't loose them.

That is how this car looked when I got it. I said keep your wheels and tires, it got a set of rollers and on the trailer it went, just like that. Original plan was for a new 33/34 style ch***is and a 392- not all this other stuff.
Those wheel wells are HUGE!! I have a 16x11 wheel and a 31 1/2" tire on there only because I couldn't find a 32" and I still have almost 4" clearance.

Thank you - that's what I was thinking it was, but hadn't heard of it as that.
