  1. Thanks blowby
I talked to him a few weeks ago.
    There's 2 passenger doors and lower 1/2 a drivers.
The condition reflects the price and shipping messes things up.

Im looking for the best possible condition doors I can find.
So far either rusted or the dreaded broken check strap smash up or both.
So far I've only Found a few cabs with good doors

  3. The problem with needing a oddball radius is most thinwall tubing benders are designed as 'one shot' benders and will only do one radius for a given size. But there are formulas for bending your own (as long as the radius is larger than what the bending shoe is designed for) with a 'regular' bender. It can be a bit involved and there's a few 'tricks' that you should know. If you know an electrician who knows how to do 'concentric' bends, he should be able to fix you up. If not and if you're still interested, I can dig up the info for you.

  4. I might just try it myself.
What's the worst that can happen?

  5. I called my three biggest electrical suppliers for a lead on someone with a sidewinder bender. Chased them all down and came up with zilch.

  6. nice pile of flammables. i skipped to the end of the video to see if fire trucks in japan were red like they are here.

  7. Man .... those Japanese guys curse like sailors. I like 'em. Beesh, cuk, muddah fookwah, suki poosi, sheet ... oh-knee me bawllz. Google translate anyone ?? Does that mean "sh#t, this is hot ?

Pretty cool. Sand pack pipe .... old school. Nice video. Your next thought process in the evolution of your coupe ..... certainly looks fun to me.

  8. Sidewinder benders aren't all that common because of how expensive they are. There's two other types for thinwall tubing; the most common will be a ratchet bender (AKA 'Chicago' bender) which is a manual bender. The other will be a 'one shot' bender which uses a hydraulic ram. There's another hydraulic type bender for rigid conduit but those use 'segment' type shoes and won't work for thinwall; these look like the benders sold by HF and other cheap tool outlets.

  12. Had to get the whole cab to get the doors and they are nice ones. :D
Really nice and complete doors except for a few bullet holes in the passenger door.
The rockers are perfect, cowl and firewall just as nice and I couldn't spot any rust in the windshield frame.
I'm going to feel real bad about cutting the door jambs out.
This is significant progress and a big hurdle has been cleared.

Just think, with a cab that nice you could save yourself a bunch of work and just turn it back into a truck ;) :D

Then you could make some money selling that pristine coupe body you created :D

  18. 2 of them are in the cowl and one hole in the door is a door lock.
Less than a dozen is a few

  19. Nope , just need the doors.

And anyone following this should think really hard and it all the way thru on installing bear claw style latches.

  21. It should be in here all ready but here's the thing.
First, there is no question that a bear claw style latch is far superior than the old style stuff, that's not even up for discussion.

However, when installing the bear claw latch in these old style doors it causes a complete redesign of the both interior door mechanics - involving the Window channels, the exterior door handles and the interior door handles. The results are less than favorable in every aspect, no where near as good as the well thought out factory design. Plus the required time to reconfigure the mechanisms is atrocious when all results are less than favorable. Doing all of this inside a of a door is like building a ship in a bottle. The easy way is full electrizical doors and that is beyond stupid.

A simple lock pin requires some time and effort but it's minimal. It creates a secure and positive lock that does a better job than the bear claw, it doesn't bother anything else inside the door and could be easily removed.
