Customs Trucks with skirts

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Barn Hunter, Apr 28, 2017.

  1. IT'S NAUSEATING .............
Just can't get ready for skirts on a truck. Yeah, WTF were they thinking?
To me they are nearly as ugly as "lace pattern" or "scallop" pattern paint jobs. Someone with too much time and money to waste.

I had a '60 Ranchero with skirts. It also had a comet grill and headlights. I thought that it looked OK. I don't have any pictures of it and so as far as the HAMB is concerned it never happened.

As an adult (or however close I got) I never cared for the look. When I was a kid there was a local badass who had skirts on a 53 ford pickup. I liked it then.....

Just my opinion but the only truck here that I think was improved by the skirts is the panel truck. The front fender skirt wtf? was he thinking. Nice execution but a clear miss.

Isn't there a rule against skirts on trucks in the H.A.M.B. rule book?

I've always felt that no matter what you do to a truck, it should always be a truck, and retain that personna, not be a truck wanting to be a car thing.

I knew this thread would open up a can of worms, but I'm glad to see some custom trucks. If we all drove red or black deuces...well, YAAAAWN....

I think if you look at Stanlow69's posts, you'll see they are quite traditional.

  15. IMO here is an example of a truck that skirts work on because of the fleetside bed and the fact it provides a uniform continuous flow down the side of the truck like they would on a car. I think the panel works well for the same reasons it has flow. To me the straight square sides of the regular "stepside" style boxes just don't lend themselves well to the look of skirted fenders. I loved Torchies truck but liked it much better without the skirts and I think his worked better than most with the skirts.

I like the international grill and headlights, I have been thinking (dangerous I know ) that I may want to do that to my '51 GMC; without the skirts.

  21. Skirts on trucks remind me of the really great custom beer haulers and fuel trucks of the 30s. It is art, not everyone can absorb that thought process when it comes to cars/trucks.

  24. Somebody put something in my drink, cause I'm liking them.
Works with the early custom thing only though. Kinda Art Deco ish.
Works with taildragger look due to making the rear quarters look heavy.

I once knew a large girl, who wore a skirt.
    That was just wrong!:D

    Bring on more pics.....
    Trucks that is.
