We are in our 2nd full season of racing out at LACR and I am starting to wonder how many traditional hot rodders are even interested in drag racing in So Cal? We have tried for 2 years to get rodders to come out and we don't see many of you out there....we are looking for people to bring out their cruisers and even their racers....

If you are interested in coming out to one of our events, please respond here (and if you are actually in California or close enough to come to one of our events....)

I think most traditional hot rodders are way more interested in jerking off over vintage parts, arguing over period correctness, and bashing small block chevys than they are in actual dragracing. :D

I've said it before and it bears repeating. The ANRA digs are really fun. I'm working a lot of hours, so I have an excuse. But if I was free, I'd have been up at Palmdale, heat and all. You people who say you crave the old days, should try it. Palmdale feels like 1972 to me. And you won't find a better, more supportive bunch of racers anywhere. As my Viper brother, Mike, the Hippie, Mitchell used to say: Step up or step back.

Actual drag racing? Where? Don't you mean bracket racing?

Sorry, I'd rather stay home and jerk off.

Show me some heads up, CID/inducton based cl***es like it really was, and I'll be all over it. I didn't spend 20 years learning how to squeeze the last drop of power out of a 50's engine design to be told I'm too fast. Also, from what I hear, this is a strictly 'for fun' series, and compe***ive/serious types aren't welcome.

Drag racing is dead to me. I'm going Land Speed Racing.

I go out there a couple of times a year as a spectator and I'll tell you it is an awesome show. Anyone reading this who lives in the area , just go once to watch you'll be hooked.

    AMEN!

  13. no, no, no...you got it all wrong...its not BRACKET racing, its INDEX racing, see.

and yes it is strictly for fun, why else?? and how did you hear it on the opposite coast anyway? we havent sent up a smoke signal relay in at least a dog's year...

as far as compe***ive serious types go....they go to that series with the big loud cars that burn the stuff that makes your eyes water...man, those guys are just too cool for school...all that time and money...

but just for grins, if you're ever in the area, stop by and see how serious some of our slack-jawed local yokels get it on...just for grins....

    but seriously folks...
stop by the ANRA booth at the rat fink party on july 8th and let us know what would get your ****s to the drags....your input is more valuable than joe average at helping us improve our program. we need gr*** roots participation to grow this ******. we have 10 cl***es from 7.60 blown alcohol on down to sportman bracket racing (OOPS>>>sorry man, we do have bracket racing...two cl***es even.....my bad...) we have a place for the HA/GR, jalopies, beaters, kustoms, whatever...hell, we'll even formulate and unoffical 'HAMB' cl*** for street driven traditional rods if we can get enough participation...club racing man...club racing...

as always, spectator admission is free for HAMB members, and we are offering discount admission for anyone who wants to run time only/run what you brung/grudge....

we're putting our heads together for something exciting for ANRA's Cool August Nights that hopefully would prove to be a great time for any hot rodder or drag junkie.

thanks to all the guys who have supported the ANRA for the last year and a half and espescialy ChiliPhil for being such a good pal to the group and for being part of the 15oz coupe fire-ups last year.

    i'm done.

workin on it JR... i should have been up and running by now but i made some choices that pushed my operation another 8 or 9 months.

as an aside, i noticed last year the ANRA race schedule was almost exactly the same as SCTA's events. its almost impossible to have a cake and be able to eat it but is there a way to work around it? perhaps a 1 week gap in between the 2 events?

ANRA is a great bunch of people, i plan on being a lot more active in the future.

    SCTA 2006
    May 6 and 7, 2 day meet
    June 11
    July 16
    September 10
    October 22
    November 11 and 12, 2 day meet

    ANRA 2006
ANRA Opener Saturday April 1st, 2006
ANRA Spring Nationals Saturday May 20th, 2006
ANRA Summer Nationals Saturday June 3rd, 2006
Cool August Nights "Nostalgia Under the Lights" Aug. 19th 2006
ANRA Fall Nationals Saturday September 9th, 2006
    ANRA Finals Sat & Sun November 18th & 19th, 2006

did the schedule change any from last year? a good mix this year unless you are participating in both.

edit - ok... im full of **** when it comes to the schedule... the only conflicting days would be sept 9/10th.... ill leave the event schedules up for others to look at though!

I was stating my opinion. Maybe I'm the only one that feels that way.

You're right, I don't get it. The original poster asked why attendance was poor. I answered. I didn't call him names.

Well, I just got off the dyno with a 58 engine that will kick the hell out of anything inch for inch, pound for pound. I did some research to find where I could show off my engineering, and came up dry. Unless I jump in the way back machine, I'm not going to be a g***er god anytime in the forseeable future.

And yes, there is still some cool options for the fuel guys. I'm not ready for that. It will stink up my armchair.

I'm not trying to attack anyone. I'm just letting you guys know why there will be one less participant. I'm sure it doesn't matter. I'm an ***hole anyway, you wouldn't want me around.

And that's all I have to say on this thread. Ciao.

I think the stands at drag races will remain empty until cars are matched up more evenly. I understand indexing but still people like heads up. Think about it. Drag racing is the ONLY automotive sport that has a handicap. What does that have to do with your original post? Nothing. I just like to preach every once in a while.........

With that said, I wish someone around here would start up an ANRA division.

Just to throw a weird idea into the thread, what if you agreed to run heads up, and so what if you break out? If you had a hand shake deal to see who made it to the stripe first? You might not advance, but if you ran a grudge deal against your opponent, it would be Heads Up, right? And you'd really Run what ya brung and hope you brought enough, right?

Also, Palmdale is a pretty nice place for an impromptu club cruise, a good place to see and be seen and, here's the bottom line, you get to hang with Drag Racers, who are the finest humans on earth. Where else can you find people who will lend you parts and help you work on your **** and then congratulate you if you beat them? Well, LSR folks are like that but who else? Nobody, that's who.

Roothawg, I think ANRA has plans to expand, make sure you support them when the try it. You won't find nicer or more dedicated people than Butch, JR and Mitch. AND, they're HAMBers!

  20. atually, now that you mention it...

over the last few races, we've had a few pairs come back for bragging rights heads up races...a couple of NE1 pairs and some g***ers...its neat...

Palmdale is pretty cool, I saw some racing up there in the early 90's (antique Nats) however I wouldn't recomend camping out under the stands, the ground is too hard !!
One day I will get back up there for a look, If I were closer I would be all over it.

Supermodified racers. If you've never been, go. They are the fastest short track cars on the planet, and the best bunch of people to race with. And every one is a raving lunatic in one way or another....

I thought I read in Car Craft that the LACR track is closing due to the gravel company needing the land, and canceling the lease??

About the only thing I enjoy about drag racing, is being in the pits and talking to people. Most tracks have World War 2 grandstands, and barriers so high you can't even see the cars, except for the top of the car going down the track.

NHRA?? Isn't that No Hot Rods Allowed?

I think if you plan the activities, and maybe have a nice BBQ instead of the $5 hot dogs, you might attract people.

Maybe have a bunch of helmets and jackets available, where the gomer puts them on in the staging, and are collected back in the shutdown. That way everyone doesn't have to spend $500 to go race for a day.

Here's a thought.....this is something my buddy and I are working on in the near future. We are building 2 similar cars, weightwise and motorwise. We are helping each other build these cars.

There will be no secrets to what is inside the motor. We are gonna try and make em run the same time so that it will be up to the driver to win the race. Sure it's not gonna be super competetive but it will be fun. We can come to events like the Hamb drags, Day of the drags, and possibly some ANRA events.

It will most likely fall under a "exhibition" cl*** but just think if 20 guys matched themselves up with their buddies.....surely we could get some heads up racing there. Besides, you're a drunk man if you think you will ever "make" money running a drag car.

We have been trying to get some guys to do this....build some BUG style cars or similar and come out and grudge. But seems like a lot of talk so far...hopefully we'll see something soon.

And by the way, for the record, index racing is HEADS UP, bracket racing is staggered start....both can break out, but index is both cars leaving at the same time.....BIG DIFFERENCE!!!! Try not to knock what you don't understand, ;)

Its not exclusive to Drag Racers. Even at the vintage races with CSRG and HMSA etc. we are always thrashing on each others cars in the pits. Its about the people and the cars. You want everyone on the track. You want to see the cars run. I've had strangers run over to their cars and yank off parts after their cl*** has run to get me on the track. I've been underneath a few strangers cars working to get them em out in time. These may be called "exibition" races but we are pushing the cars as far as our driving skills allow. Its pretty wild to see a race prepped Hudson slogging it around the carosel at Sears point! There is no way for most of us to compete in professional motorsports these days. The nostalage and vintage cl***es allows you to get up close and particpate. This may be a bit OT and I may be missing the point but if it wasent for the nostalga and vintage race groups we'd never get our cars out on the track.

  27. I don't think this is what you want to hear, but here goes. I used to race quite a bit at LACR. It just was disappointing to feel a 10 second "pull" here in the valley to run 11's. Or paying for 650 HP and only feeling 550HP. BIG difference from LACR to Big Willies Terminal Island track (avg. 3 1/2 tenths). It sure felt like more. But the point is to "ME" that "feel". If it's only 3 1/2 tenths but "feels" like a bunch, i have to go with the "feel". Snap your neck in the valley, and feel like 2 dead cylinders once arriving at LACR. Put a "muffled" track (so old ladys don't *****) NEAR the SFV and i'm sure you'd be shocked at the response. Just my 2 cents. And now there's talk about the new LACR being further from L.A.? That'll be interesting!

JR I wish you luck, but man NDRA and the original ANRA had the same problem. It has nothing to do with brackets, indexes or heads up. It's plain old lack of interest. There will be more beach chair lurkers at a Bob's Big Boy cruz on a Friday nite then will make the effort to even spectate at the drags.

Wish there was a good answer for ya. Maybe a battle of the clubs for king of the hill type race?

Wish I was in town enough to make it out.

So is NDRA 100% gone or does someone still hold the rights to the name? I was a member way back. I went to Memphis to the Muddy Water Nats. That was a great turnout for that show. I always wondered what the scoop was on why it flopped...

Not sure what the status of the name is. Heard rummors about Furd and Mouse, but I have not spoken to either of them in over 10 years. I liked working with them and their crew. Still have my car cover with all the races listed. They would print the event shirts on site, so I would just have them print it on my car cover. Still have my NDRA sticker on the back window.

Racers never paid the bills. Not enough cars and payouts to winners eats that up. Spectators and time only or trophy cl***es pay the bills, but there were never enough of them.

Through legal issues and other matters NDRA went from the biggest to zero.
