This absolutely killer 5 window was built by Doug"s (the current owner )Dad back when you could buy a 32 coupe for $25 (his dad wouldn't let him buy the deuce roadster he found as it was deemed too dangerous !! ) The coupe was hopped up with a Flat head motor , dropped axle, reverse eyed spring (done by a local blacksmith ) & 46 juice brakes. It was painted this killer blue with the white pleated interior with blue piping. Doug's dad hot rodded it around & then stuck it in a garage, removed & primered the front fenders , took out the fllathead , filled the rear panel after removing the Chevy tail lights & then sat it up on blocks for 40 years .
Doug got the car 10 years ago& put it back together , had a flathead built & then brought up his family & stored the coupe for almost another 10 years .When he got around to starting the engine there were some serious issues with the build , Doug tried to bandaid the problems but when water started pouring out of the tail pipe on the drivers side he threw in the towel.
It was then that I got a call from Doug to ask if I'd take on the project of getting his Dad's old coupe back up & running. I was honored to be a small part in the life of this fantastic coupe. It was love at 1st sight when the car arrived ( we do have the hood with the pinstriped louvers to go on once I've got the heads finally torqued down )
We pulled out the motor, found the pistons were above the deck & hitting the New Navarro heads (even with .100 copper gaskets fitted ) at tdc.It was a stroked Merc crank with floating bearings .
Parts were taken to Taylor Engines, the crank magged Bad (3 cracked Journals !!! ), the 59 A block magged good as did the rods, but when pressure tested the water was coming out of # 5 as they had drilled & put a hole in the exhaust port (putting in a heli coil ) I made a plug for the hole & fixed the leak, we got a new stroker kit from Scat & built the motor using an Isky cam. The Heads were from the original engine Doug's Dad built. The rest is as found with some subtle stuff Doug did to make it drivable today. If you want to see an example of a 50's Hot Rod check this one out, btw no patches anywhere on the body . The Tires are the originals too!!Man I love it.

really sharp car... and cool that it stayed in the family all those years...

  8. Now that is cool! It probably had the wrong pistons from the get-go . . . caused the pistons to hit the heads. Glad to see this car back on the road!

That one brings back all the memories. My first ride in a hotrod was in a 5 window the same color in the 60's. We went thru the 1/4 mile at over 100 mph and I knew I had to have one. The only difference was it had a 327 with a 4 speed.

That's the kind of car every hot rodder hopes to come across at least once in his lifetime. I walk past mine every time I go in the shop..
