I am probably going to end up doing flames on my chevy and I have been in dispute with some people on which way they go- with the flow of the body or in the regular view to people behind me. What is correct. I have seen it both ways.

Put them in the direction the wind is usually going, fast and to the back!

flames, no matter if they're inside, outside, or underneath, should ALWAYS point to the back of the car... lest they look deadset retarded.

I agree with everyone else....the whole reason of putting flames on a car is to make it look like its moving while standing still....if you put them the opposite way its gonna look like you go in reverse all the time......the only exception to putting flames on pointing up would be on the tailgate of a truck....which in my opinion doesn't look good either.

Who ever heard of backwards flames??? I don't even like backward scallops. Do you drive in reverse everywhere you go? Of course of you mount the body on backwards it would be OK....

The wind comming off the roof and from under the car of a car curls back and blows towards the front:D

(BTW, front to back looks best)

No doubt, go front to back. Even with scallops, scallops going in the opposite direction will visually shorten the car

The car that made me confused was Larry Grobe's pyro 52. They looked alright on that. Does anyone disagree?

For sale -- French rifle, never used, only dropped once.

Oh yeah -- and a reverse-flamed Peugeot – painted while backing up from the action.

My vote -- the flames occur while going FORWARD, hence they're from the front to the rear. Period. Scallops are a thing that can occur to tickle the panels and your fancy.

    Flames, however, are not negotiable.

Are there any pics of cars with them on the trunk?

  16. I saw that one too. Flaming Pintos would be great band name.

I think it worked on his car. There are no rules. lay them out in tape and see what you like best.

A 19 year old thread? Is it nostalgia week and I missed it? The OP hasn't posted since 2006 so probably no pictures.

  20. Lee Pratt's Nomad. Great car, I never could get past the backwards flames on the rear.

Flames and scallops should go towards the rear.

  23. I disagree. Well, you asked. o_O
Flames in the back, with the base down low, and the tips flowing up and towards the roof (backward), look like a burning pile on the side of the road.
Flames are meant to make a statement of extreme power and motion, not a confused, broken-down fail.

That's a big call. You should check out "Voodoo Larry Grobe". He has built some spectacular stuff....
He may have turned out maybe a few more than you have. I'm not entirely sure.:D

I've seen his other ugly cars as well... he's like a talented Bad Chad. the car in that picture is ugly. chrome and paint will make it shiney and ugly. got to admire his hard work and dedication, just not his vision of what looks good
