Trying my hand @ a slower mode of transport

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by sckracing, Jun 17, 2008.

  1. Actually, I've been working on my "slower" mode since last September (I'm a drag racer by upbringing)... but, it's actually turning out to be a sort of extended scavenger hunt, with more dead-ends than victorious ones.

I was told by an old junkyard friend of mine that it's because of the badge on the trunk..., a 1939 Desoto..., "Couldn't you of bought a more popular brand?"
Yeah, I know it's a Mopar, and as I'm building a "Hot Rod/Rat Rod", I don't really care of the manufacturer as long as the parts fit (or come close to fitting) and operate as required, but personally I'm used to opening up the speed catalogs and ordering up racing ch***is', drivelines, etc. (you gotta follow the rulebook or load 'er back on the trailer).

Back in my younger days I was a junkyard hunting fool, but nowadays you (or at least, I) can't seem to find any of those old "Good Ol' Boy" junkyards out here in California anymore, they're all so generic and run the cars through their lots weekly.

I'm hoping that through a renewed interest in swap meets, car shows, and these online forums, I'll be able to resurect a whole new "g****vine" and get the ol' Deso..., Hot Rod, out on the road as a daily driver soon.

That being said, I'm here in search of the knowledge of what '30's and '40's models/manufacturers criss cross their parts (i.e., this Ford/Chev/Mopar part fits this model Ford/Chevy/Mopar, etc.), along with mul***udes of advice.

  6. My Bad.
But I did buy some of those identical decals from a guy at the April 27th Auto swap meet, and I just figured he was a local.
He was a tall lanky guy with gl***es and dark hair... he had them all displayed in seperate plastic cases, and about the same price. There's supposed to be another auto swap coming up out there I believe next month, he'll probably be there.
Any who, nice to know I can get the ones I wanted to get more of from you.
