the frame sits on an 82 monte carlo frame. wasn't sure if thats a factor. went on ride tech.com and noticed how many options are out there.
You'll definitely have to cut part of the trunk pan for the c-notch and possibly have to channel the body for the drive shaft. But I would go with a tri 4 link setup from ride tech and not sure the diameter for the Monte Carlo coils spring up front but start with cups up front with a notch in the rear with the bag brackets coming off of the notch. I would definitely recommend going with a boa setup instead of anything crazy. Thatll get it on the ground. Post some undercar pics if you can.
you can start by searching all of the threads on air bags then figure how to incorporate that information into your unique frame. so, do you have the skills, tools, equip,$$ to tackle this? oh ya, tell us more and post more pics of your '54.
I bagged mine I built my own frame and still the leaf springs. I rides like shit over bumps but great on smooth road. I'm in the proccess of a thre link conversion. all home made of course. will post pix
To lay on the ground you need some major fab work to do.Bottom line is can you weld?.you have to think of c notch, floor tunnel, raising the gas tank up into the trunk, the type of bags you want and the hardware that goes along with it.The there is the front.Dont forget geometry, pinion angle and alignment, all major factors on how it travels, and how safe it is.
Has it had an entire frame-swap or has it been subframed in the front? I think an 82 Monte's wheelbase is a little shorter than a 54 Chev, so if its been lengthened and it has the full Monte treatment then the rear may not require a notch (depending on tire size, how the body's mounted, etc.) to get it real close to the ground. Even if that's the case, plan on raising the tunnel and most likely the wheel wells in the back. Lets see what it looks like underneath it. Why don't you remove the springs and bumpstops to get a feel for how low it'll sit w/out any cutting? Also, S10 dropped spindles can be used on the front.
I have uploaded some pictures of what I have done with my 54. Everyone is different and will fabricate a different way, that's the fun of hot rods. Just thought they might give you an idea of what it takes. Have fun.
the monte's were coil spring in the rear I think. easy bad swap..to get it down. to lay rockers, that will depending on how the body is set up on the frame (is it channeled now)...
