I'm building my 215 (it's finally at the machine shop) but I don't want to break the bank building this six to make half the horsepower of a stock smallblock for twice the price. Here's what I'm doing: Cutting the block down to give me about 9.5:1 compression, 223 pistons, custom ground cam from isky, cc'ing the head and porting it, clifford intake and headers. I need to find all of the parts (bearings, pistons, rings, oil pump, etc). Has anyone bought these parts from anywhere that they would suggest for good prices and/or service? Also, I've heard that the clifford headers may not work on the 215's. Does anyone have any experience with them? I'd really rather just buy them than spend the time making a set of headers.
Well....Egge it is. My engine builder gets slightly better pricing with Egge than I do so I'm going with their stuff. They're as reputable as it gets with vintage engine parts so I hope it all goes well.
one thing to remember when making the compression like that . its gona be hard to find pump gas that you can run without pinging the valves with out having to lower your timing . with todays gas you might actualy be going backwards because you might not be able to get enough timing to make it run good .
I hear what you're saying with the compression but I've built a few higher compression motors for these old beasts and haven't had any problems with pump gas. So, I shouldn't have a problem with 9.5:1. I originally wanted to go higher but figured I'd be running into problems with octane. This should run on 93 octane with no problems. I guess we'll see when its finished!
