I found my grandpas old car club jacket from when he was a teen, I was trying to find old photos or just more info about it, club name was the Saracens there were in santa clara, would be badass to find the old club plaque.
Because I have never actually searched on that site but always wanted to... I have used O'Brien Truckers for newer tag toppers and plaques, just never looked up an old one. Looks like this might be it?
Couldn't help myself, had to look up what a Saracen is. Originally any member of the nomadic tribes of Syria and nearby regions.
Here are some newspaper articles about Saracens Car Club: February 22, 1956: January 2, 1958: October 2, 1958: November 30, 1958: December 12, 1958: February 19, 1959: March 13, 1959: August 28, 1959: February 11, 1960: July 30, 1961: September 23, 1966: October 21, 1966:
This makes you wonder if this wasn't a 'regional' club with chapters in different cities, seeing how seven different cities are mentioned in the press releases (although not Santa Clara). It also helps when searching O'brians plaque list to also input city names as well as club name. That's how I found the vintage 'Yelm Wheelers' plaque as 'Yelm' is a unique city name but no state was mentioned.
Just a heads up to you @Olgreen65 , on your grandfathers cool club jacket. That type of embroidery on the jacket, is old school that was done by hand, with an industrial sewing machine. To do that type of jacket these days with all of that " fill " stitching via an industrial " TAJIMA " embroidery machine, and the digitizing it requires to do all of that " fill " is big bucks that would blow your mind how much it cost! That big patch in the center, wasn't cheap to have it made as well! It's calculated by the thread count! Ask me how I know ! Hang onto that jacket and guard it, its worth some major money when you look at what people will pay for cool vintage clothing, such as what you have in your possession now! So cool that you found that jacket ! Thanks from Dennis.
Here us a link to an autobiography written by a former Birmingham Saracens member. https://www.academia.edu/30666215/RIDES_OF_PASSAGE_Along_the_Road_to_Poona_ This reference states Saracens was a name used by many car clubs around Southern California, which would explain all the different city references. I think membership may have been high school students.
