Hot Rods trying to get a willys

  1. Does that thing have any bounce up front ?

    I'd go 4-1/2" for a street car.

Calling ahead is definitely best, I brought my J back 5 years ago from Canada. You can legally bring it back through any U.S. border but not all are familiar with the process. When I called they wanted me to use a crossing that was out of my way. The one I used hadn't done one in awhile and ate up the saved time by not finding the correct paperwork, all 3 pages. Make sure the Vin on car matches ***le and be prepared to have your truck, trailer and new car x-rayed.

Oh yeah, since the Canadian dollar is equal to 70 cents on our dollar you really put a beating on the old guy.

thanks for all the tips guys! as far as the 57 goes there is about 1/2 inch of suspension travel up front and about 5 inches of travel in the bench seat LOL, the springs were the fastest and cheapest way to get the front end up.

well, I got the willys home and gave it a thorough looking over. all steel except rear fenders. the body looks to be in really nice shape as I found no signs of major rust/rot holes patched {inspected from underneath and inside car as it has no door panels or interior to speak of} floor is solid with a few metal patches from work and changes over the years. not a olds 9.3 rearend but a ford 9 inch. plus a newer straight axle setup {looks like a speedway kit} had a auto trans as I see a auto meter tran temp gauge. now has a Muncie 4speed with some kind of hyd clutch release{NOT A M22} sbc possible 327 small skinny harmonic}iron heads not double hump. . my guess is the car had a makeover in the 80s to the pro street look and the next owner started or was trying to bring it back to more of a g***er look. as far as getting the car imported into the US went as smooth as silk.

tomorrow gonna see if I can get the rear jacked up some and see if its possible to put a smaller wheel/tire{not as wide}on it without looking goofy. I want to get the wheel/tire combo + the mid 80s bucket seats off of it asap! its just not my kinda look. will take some more pics and will post tomorrow.

car has some good bones and a great start! has some real scab/hack work done but at one time someone has done some really nice work such as 4 link susp, shortened ford 9inch with disc brakes {ripping out}. though I don't like the steering column the steering system down to the box is done up right. the hyd brake and hyd clutch setup I am saving as this is a very good setup.
