Trying to identify a ch***is I found today at a s**** metal recycler. Apparently it was used as a farm trailer, but it appears to be complete and in good condition. It had some heavy paint on it that probably kept it from rusting so much. Anyway, it had 6 lug wheels. Similar to 40 - 48 Ford rims except they had the spring tabs for hubcaps. The rear end had a removable back plate but the front also bolted in like a 54-62 Chevy except it had a torque tube instead of a driveshaft. Front suspension was parallel leaf springs on a dropped I beam. The ch***is reminded me of 32 rails in the rear the way they kicked up. Didn't look like a truck ch***is. The rails were open on the bottom instead of the side like a Ford and they had a lip on each side the full length. Sadly I had no way to haul it home. Wondering if it would be worth getting depending on the price.
mid 30s chev i think, ill post some pics i have on how to mount front suspensions to them as i think youll be able to tell from the line drawings
Worth getting just for the section with the serial number stamped in, if it's an old enough frame (which it should be)... I thought Chevy also when you said 6-lug.
The 6 Lug denotes it as a Chevycar/ChevyGMC truck etc.. Did you know and Hudson used the torque tube setup thru the 50's till their demise ...Buick til at least '61 and Rambler/American Motors up to at least '64 in their cars?
sure that frame was open on the bottom? sound like a chevy car to me by the 6 lugs and the description of the rear end. chevies had a frame like that but with a plate spot welded to the bottom the full length. it was not open
