I'm trying to help a buddy out..... He has a pair of BBC heads that he is going to use in a 427/57 Chevy, anyone have an online source to run the numbers against spec? They are 3919840 for any who might be curious. Thamks.
3919840 chamber vol - 104.9 intake -2.19 exh - 1.72 came on 396,427 ci in yrs 65-69 additional comments: high perf, large port 375hp 396, and 425/435hp 427's got this out of my BBC book, some good heads he scored didnt have the intake runner size... can take a look in some of my other bbc books
I don't have my books at home, I loaned 'em out!! doing a search on line I come up with various data, chamber cc- 104.9, 107, 109 (closed) intake valve diameter 2.06, 2.19 exhaust valve diameter 1.72, 1.88 but I don't see any numbers on port runners..? also a few applications, COPO L-78/L-71/L-72 looks like a good candidate for a dual grind cam, prepped right, your buddy should be able to make a streetable 450-500 HP relatively easy. what block?
The website that you want is www.mortec.com Here's what they say about your casting #: 3919840....67-69...rect..CLOSED..396, 427, 107cc chamber
I had a set of those. It's your basic closed chamber, rectangle port iron head. Not bad heads, but I would hold out for a set of open chamber heads. They flow better and there are a whole lot more choices for pistons. Save your pennies and get aluminum heads while you are at it.
Flipper, like these? (reworked 074s) yeah, there's lots of better choices out there, some of the recent aftermarket stuff looks good, like the AFR heads fer instance but, and I repeat, if the combo is done right that motor is gunna kick ass over almost any other pre '69 motor.
