I need to vent for a minute here. I put my chevy up for sale on here the other day. I originally purchased it for a measly 200. bucks, now, I was asking 1500. for it and it's because of all of the rare, original pieces that were with the car. I knew if I Ebay'd all this stuff I would make a killing but instead I attempted to give the Hambers a chance first. I have already had two rude SOB's leave me PM about my asking price and how it was dishonest for me to do that. How about try this on for size, I have five children, one which has a degenerative heart condition, and my wife is the only one working full time as I have to stay home with our very sick child. I am a registered nurse my trade but due to my childs medical condition, can't be gone at work as she needs nursing interventions that I can do and my wife can't. With that said, don't accuse me of being a dishonest "low buyer, high seller". I don't want a damn dime of pitty but next time try to be a little empathetic before you post rude stuff about others, now if you don't like my asking price, don't leave me ANY comments, rather leave me alone, or you can pay my bills and bitch all you want about my asking price and I won't care. Thanks for being such supportive HAMB BROTHERS!!!!!!

  2. Hang in there brother. The internet always brings out "online courage". Either that or due to the impersonal nature on the internet, comments can be taken the wrong way.

As for buying low, selling high... The whole country was built on this premise. That's the American way and I say sell, sell sell!

Since this thread won't live long heres my advice. If you land a nice haul-keep it to yourself and don't advertise it. Most people don't want to hear how much you plan to make on a deal. I'm all for free enterprise, and believe me most hot rodders have at one time bought something and turned it for a tidy sum. Your delivery could have been a little better thought out.
Take care of your family. I commend your priorities.

People just hate to see others make money at something and they think that because you got a good deal on something that you should just pass the deal onto them, $1500 doesn't sound like a bad price for a 53.

My prayers go out for you and your family. Hang in there and don't take offense to words on a screen. There is nothing you can do about it and there is nothing they can do to harm you or yours. Just keep diggin in and doing what you are doing. Like LaGrasta said, buying low selling high is how this great country of our was brought up.

  7. It always amazes me the comments that people come up with. There is nothing "Dishonest" (Def: Disposed to lie, cheat, defraud, or deceive) about asking whatever you want for your Chevy. The market will decide whether its worth that amount or not and that has nothing to do with what you paid for it. If you'd paid 3 grand and were asking $1500 because that's what the market would bear, would these same buttheads give you the difference? These people that feel the need to blast you for asking what you think is fair half the time are the ones that brag about how much they sold a part for on FleaBay or at a swap meet themselves. It's always a one way street with that type. Screw 'em - I hope you get a fair price for the Chevy.

    Ain't that the truth.
Dont let a few e-bullies get ya down man. If people dont want to buy it then fine, thats there choice but to criticize you about it is pretty low.

First of all, it was not smart to list what you paid for it. That is none of anyone's business. America is made of people making money as a middle man, which is all this is. To not make a profit is communist/socialist ideaology. So keep what you pay for stuff to yourself, and make whatever money people are willing to pay for your stuff.
making a profit is the American, capitalist way and its the best way in the world.

as if they wouldnt think of it if it had come their way..yeah right!
dont sweat it , besides you got a deal,,and as i see it you are still giving out a good deal.
if they cant play with what you are offering,,than they need to look elsewhere, with out having to tell you how or what to do.

And you know the SOB's leaving you the PM's would be doing the same thing for triple what you asked. Hang in there and like said before, internet bullying is the cool thing to do now.

  12. And when you do pass the 'deal' on to others, they take it and sell it for the profit you should have gotten.

Nothing ticks me off more than to give a person something and not long after they sell it.

Then there's the guy you give free bolts etc. to.
It's not long until he's dragging his friend into your garage for free bolts.
Funny part is, he doesn't understand why you run them both out of the garage....

It's nobody's business what you paid for it. Ask what ever you want and take whatever you can get. Stuff's only worth what a willing buyer will pay and a seller is willing to accept.

    Fuck the commie bastards !

I think you ask what you want for it. But let's look from the other side. I don't condone making rude comments but I occasionally will send a seller information about their vehicle to help them market it better. I don't know what you consider "rude, SOB comments" but maybe they were trying to help you make a sale. I sent a guy this morning on another site a link to actual pricing on a ragged out 64 PU that he was asking in the $6k range for.

One assumes that you are actually trying to sell the item you have in the classified. Price it what you will but if you don't know the market, expect to get some folks commentary. If it's rude and nasty, just delete and go on or better yet, send them a response that raises the price because of their attitude.

And C9, boy do I agree with you!! Moochers drive me bananas.

This post doesnt make any fucking sense you say your trying to make a living yet you act like you were doing the HAMB a favor by listing it here instead of ebay.

Stop being a pussy and crying with this worthless post and sell the truck on ebay to take care of your family..

Who cares what someone says in a PM. Do you get offended everytime some one throws you a low ball offer as well. That's the buying and selling game now a days.

    Suck it up.

If the buyer and the seller both go away happy ,that's the making of a good deal..Don't matter what ya paid or what ya sold it for..
Ignore the goof balls..push delete, works for me !

  17. you can either ignore it , or let it eat you up , hell just hit the reply button a dozen times or so with your own very special comment.. easiest thing to do would be to edit your ad..

    prayers for your family man..

Yeah sorry to get off topic but I'd be furious if someone used my labor to help build up their car good enough to sell, unless that was clear from the beginning.

Speaking of mooching bolts, I've *got* to get some more, anybody recommend a fastener store in the LA area? I'd like to toss all mine and refill with bolts I *know* aren't counterfeit chinese junk, or at least have a better chance they aren't.

    anyway back to topic-

you're asking for trouble doing something like that, posting what you paid for a vehicle and then asking for 7 times that amount. You're an adult, this shouldn't be news to you. Your chosen member name is a real strike against you, Prostreetrig, as this is a trad. hotrodding board, not pro street. So people gave you some shit, well, isn't that what you wanted?!? Don't cry about it now or use your circumstances to justify your poor decisions.

  19. Just tell people you paid $3000 for it but cant afford to do what you were intending to do to it and need the money so you are dropping it by half. Then when people see it, the think they are getting a great deal. Dishonest, hell no, just stretching a bit. If they like the truck and think they are getting a deal, they will be happy. No body likes to pay 7 times what others paid but they like paing half!!. People are strange.

Hum, I'm confused. Is this the same HAMB that had a gazillion posts bitching about someone NOT saying what they gave for a Corvette racecar relic?
I'll agree that a car (or part) is worth what it'll bring, not what you gave for it. Don't worry about the small minded people that think everyone needs to bend to their way of thinking, unless it's me. :^)

  21. Well I'm sorry the kid is sick. I wish there was something I could say to make that better, but there just isn't. I feel for ya.

As for the truck and rude tire kickers that's just life. Someone will probably buy it. Good luck on your sale.

Hang in there bro...I'm sorry to hear about you ill child, that HAS to be heartbreaking. Keep your chin up and nevermind what anyone else has to say about your asking price. It's obvious to me that you have integrity by the very fact that you are taking care of your child and you have your priorities stright (money for bills instead of a truck). Keyboard bravado is a sure sign of a coward IMO...I don't give those fools the time of day. Keep doing what your doing, and don't forget to ask the Big Guy upstairs for some help every once in a while either. You and your family are in my prayers....

Damn...sell it on eBay if you need the money badly. Sorry about your situation.

You have to realize that hot rod speculators have helped drive the price up on the stuff we love, so I suppose it's a sore spot for lots of people, that's why they get pissed. I can see both sides.

the way i have always thought about this old car shit is that it comes down to what ever you have the balls to ask and what ever someone has the balls to pay for it. thats what it is worth.
