My face was black, my arms, my hands... all black. I've been polishing everything. The carb bodies I did by hand using 3M rubbing compound. If you hit those with the wheel its not as consistent you get real shiny areas and not so shiny areas. The carb bases are chromed... all the fuel ******s are chrome. All the hardware is stainless that I polished. Initially the SP tops were hammered to **** when I first got them. I made home made blocks and glued sand paper to them to block all the dimples out from stuck floats- someone really hammered on them. The intake was polished when I got it but you could still see the remnants of the drag star logo and it was used/beat up... so I sanded the entire thing and polished... and again today I just gave it a tune up. The linkage if vintage Segal progressive. Its really nice linkage super stoked how it turned out. Stromberg replacement parts are awesome. I replaced the throttle shafts- all of the new parts are made out of stainless so you can polish them. There are still a few parts in these carbs that I actually sifted out of the ashes of the fire believe it or not... all of the bowl plugs etc. I had the carbs taken apart and had some parts in the shop and other parts in the house- so the carb bases, floats, bodies were spared. A few more hours and I'll have the other carb finished and the linkage... I didn't order enough stud kits for the intake, I didn't read it right thought there were three sets per pack but it was just three studs per pack, so I ordered more. I also ordered 6 fulcrum screw sets too because the new ones are stainless and will polish up. I plan to run black fuel line- Thats it- more tomorrow, Tuck
Can any words really describe this intakes beauty? Tuck, you're efforts are really paying off! When I ran 6-two Holley 94s, they were impressive to look at. Your setup for your hemi in terms of looks, ups the ante quite a bit! So with progressive linkage, you're running with the center twos most of the time until you hammer the throttle, having the outside four come in at higher rpm? Or the other way around?
I unlike the carb post so I could like it again... Really happy for you Tuck. You deserve this. Watching your process is really inspiring. While your skills are way above my level, its something to aspire too. Thanks for sharing so much of your build
That is a lot of work right there...what dedication! you have made an art piece...a pic should be archived in the HAMB hot rod museum
Meticulous worker, fantastic handle on vintage cool and good eye with the camera...so much that's too nice to cover up but lots will be available to focus on regardless...quite a journey your sharing...thank you.
Tuck. Those line clamps are still available. I have a bunch. I found them at a surplus hardware store. Both single wire and dual wire styles. Sometimes appliance repair places have them, dishwashers and washing machines have them inside.
My hemi has come a long way since then!! (-; that pic is rad I’ve never seen it before! Is that right after you initially got it? Didn’t it come out of a roundy 36 ford or something?
Yeah, Corncobcoupe told me it was in a 30s ford of some kind. I'm glad you ended up with it. You should post the video of the day you guys fired it up for the 1st time...Hilarious! And don't dis my engine puller.....it's served me well for 30 years and the fact it lifts a full sized Chrysler Hemi is testament to it's sturdy [if ugly] construction. BTW, The green "fence stretcher" come along has been replaced with a proper chain-type come along. Much safer
@Rocky I love the picker-!! I'd totally rock that thing. Heres the video of the same motor firing up... haha.
a buddy stopped by to use my buffer to shine some harley parts one summer night. after a while, he hopped on my panhead for a blast around town to cool off. unfortunate for him my bike has no mirror. stopped at a light next to a car full of girls, he gives them a nod and asks how's it going all cool like. they look at him with disgust. he comes back to the garage and looks at himself in the mirror on his truck and begins yelling at me how i could let him go out like that. his face was black with the exception of where he wiped the sweat from his eyes. looked like a negative of a rac****.
Reminds me of my buddy's (r.i.p. SKG) cruise on his panhead, pulled up next to a car of girls, turns out one was his daughter!
