I was thinking @cactus1 roadster was done in 58 but with the chrome wheels and thinner whites it certainly could have been early
60’s. I think I bracket 1958-1962 together in my head

Me too man, late fifties/early sixties… that would’ve been a rad time to be around.

@cactus1 do you know what color your car is?

I ordered the new roadster doors and back panel… should be here mid December! It’s on now!

  4. @Tim originally finished in ‘58 in white and red with wide whites. Then rebuilt around ‘62 ish in the blue with the skinnier whites.

@Tuck I think he said it was a Dodge color if I remember correctly?

Here’s the can from ‘62

 What?? Oh that’s killer that you still have the old duracryl can! Man… That’s awesome.

I don’t know that PPG still has their color library anymore?? I used to have a number you could call but lost it a long time ago, the number online is no longer active. I was trying to figure out what year dodge that would be. Tcb global has a color library. Didn’t see anything from 59-63 that matched from dodge Plymouth or Chrysler. Whats cool is if you did figure out the year/code you could have them mix more in acrylic lacquer if you ever needed to fix or blow in any areas.

  7. Well the car was white with red accents just to clarify!

Crazy thing is the contents are still liquid!(whatever they are?) I’m afraid to open it up, ha!
I will have to look in the file I got from Lanny to see if the color name is in there somewhere!

I made this from some aluminum that melted from my shop fire. I cut the puddles up and we melted it back when I taught at ECHS and I saved a pile of ingots. I think the puddles I had were from my ET wheels on my roadster… and who know what else. Poured really clean. IMG_6216.jpeg

Thanks Tim, I think I’m going to make some finned spark plug wire covers for this next. Offy makes a set for Desotos or Dodge- kinda like those. I’ll base the pattern off the steel ones I have. I plan to paint the hemi red with silver valve covers (painted) and then top them off with polished finned wire covers. Should be a good balance.

    Thanks dude,
Ok started on the finned covers! Went and got the bits I needed. Glued up a few pieces of maple and plained them to the height it wanted. Then jointed one side and set the draft angle I wanted for the outside in the table saw and cut both sides.
Making two in case I fuck one up on the mill.

I’ll mill out the fins and hollow out the underside. I saved the cut offs so I can chuck it up in the vice square.
    To be continued…

  24. This is so cool! It’s been so long since I casted anything and I never made anything that needed to fit something specific. How much do you add to allow for shrinkage?? Is it 3%???

The blue on Roths Rotar was 56 Dodge royal blue poly. When I was restoring it I called Larry Warson for the paint codes.

still lots of work to do but check it out! These are about 1/4” longer than they’ll be in aluminum.

I sanded a draft angle into the Finn’s and radiused all the edges… added two divots for hardware, I’ll counter sink those.

I left the center screw out I think I can squeeze by on the two and it’s cleaner.

I just need to primer surface and then sand out in 320… build a cope and drag and then pour these bad boys.

If the poured result is “shrunk” from the mold size are you going to have to make the spot for the hardware larger when it’s cast? Looks like it’s the same size as the bolt head now. Or will the counter sinking take care of that?

loving the follow along on the casting and the frequent small updates on this build:)
