Tudor titling attempt strike two!!!

  1. Well, if you use paper and a homemade frame, I would hope you'd go out and get some stamps or have an engraver put that number on your frame or on a tag someplace. Most old tags are little more than galvanized tin, Willys have two - a fancy one and a little round-ended one that you could copy in about 10 minutes - heck, you could probably buy a dog tag that looks just like it.

NY still does not title 1972-older cars...

One big zinger on Model A titling: MANY Model A's have been titled over the years with serial numbers taken from a rebuilt engine not from the car...meaning there is always a possibility that even though you either have the frame with actual number OR you have the title from a car rhat was melted down 50 years ago, the number may be in use...if you have the actual numbered frame, Lord only knows how this would shake out legally or who would be considered the legit owner of that number.

And Ford serials are NOT on any sort of tag, only on chassis parts. Rotted tags on firewall are patent plates (no legal use) or production numbers from one of the outside body suppliers like Briggs. Some states have reference books with original number location info, some haven't a clue.

My good friend does this title application thing all the time. Just this past sunday he informed me all you need is the vin number and year and make to get a title in michigan. He told me you no longer need to get an officer to verify number. You just wait at the dmv while they do a number check. If number comes back with no record you are good to go. It does help if you have a bill of sale. Also be realistic on the value for sales tax. Even the people at the dmv know you don't buy old cars for $50 anymore.

The way I see it if you are a good guy and trying to get a YOM (year of manufacture) title for YOUR old car all is OK in doing it this way. If that number comes up on the search as a stolen vehicle you may have some explaining to do.

To answer your first question......yes. Second question.........maybe, depends on the year and make. 1932 ford historical documents are valuble these days.

Also take note on old title applications in m ichigan you can only choose 2 door or 4 door. They won't put the model on the title. Steve

Hey Metcutem, was that for a lost title then? Where all you need is the bill of sale and vin and yom? I have had problems where the DMV says the seller of the car needed to do the lost title application.

I have done the yellow sheet with a vin verification by a police officer many times over the years. Almost always on 32 fords. I get a 32 frame with legible numbers and I would get a title for it. I have not personally tried the new system but was told by a guy who does it frequently its much easier now.
I have never done the lost title method myself. I have an old timer buddy who has done it. He tells them its his and he can't find the title.
The "bill of sale" with sellers name and address plus sellers phone number really helps. Also date, year, vin, make and purchase price on bill of sale. . You bought it from your buddy right? Even if you gave it to your pal and then bought it back from him he could give you a bill of sale. I buy some from my dad........no sales tax if you buy from family. I sell him stuff too.
