Looks like a real nice project you have there. I am making a lot of the same decisions you have made and will definitely keep an eye on this build for reference.

  2. I am going to start making the tunnel and floor. The tunnel will be left exposed and be painted body color (washington blue) . The floor I was going to use the rubber mat that is used for model a running boards. Behind the seat I am going to put a wood floor down kind of like a pick up bed floor.

Cool car. I read about that Dagels in Rod & Custom. I am saving up for their boxing plates.

  5. thanks guys, progress slowed a little since my son was born five months ago. That's okay because my wife always wanted a mini cooper so we made one. My sons name is Cooper, sorry I cant show you that build thread.

This is *****in, very similar to what I want to build. I just got my hands on a complete 8BA myself. I want to build some sort of open ****pit roadster.

  9. Thanks I put the model a on hold for about a month or so so I can finish my shoebox ford.

  10. So I got back the the model a after a long break. After looking at the front end for like a year I decided to cut it apart and redo it. I ended up moving the crossmember back 2" so I have more room for the tie rod to clear the spring.

    Attached Files:

  11. After I got the crossmember welded in and new spring mounts made and welded to the bones I had to set the caster. I pie cut about 1/4" out of the wish bones. This got the caster from 13 deg. down to 5 1/2 deg. I cut some 1/8" plate to reinforce where I cut the bones. I cut the heads off some 3/16 carriage bolts and welded them to the plate to simulate buck rivets.

  12. While I had the spring out I rounded off the ends of the leafs. I also made new shock mounts and had to get some shorter shocks.

Very interesting touches that you have incorporated into this build.

  16. I striped the red powder coating off the backing plates with some aircraft striper. I then cut some vent holes in them with the plasma cutter. Thought I would do some thing a little different than drilling them full of holes. I got the idea from that model a Jimmy Shine built a while back.

  17. After some cleanup with with a grinder and a file and a quick ride in the blasting cabinet. I ordered some stainless mesh to fill the holes. The backing plates will be painted black with the mesh left polished.

Looks cool. How are you holding the mesh in place?

  19. I first tried tig welding them in but the stainless is too thin to weld to the backing plates. I ended up using 3m panel bond to hold them in.

Fritz, Nice work. I have subscribed now to keep up with your progress.
Have you bought Cooper some starter tools yet?

  21. Thanks vtwhead, Yea we got him some tools to play with. He bangs on the garage door until I open it up and show him the car about ten times a day. I think he got the bug already.

  22. The ends of the rails needed to be notched a bit for the tie rod. With the frame welded down to the frame jig I ran the suspension through its travel to make sure every thing clears. I started finishing up the fire wall last night, i'll get some pics up in the next day or so.
