  1. No "wings" ... that's about $800 it's not worth, depending how rusty they would have been.

I read that it has Cosmoline on it. That could work, if you dipped it in it. We used to get surplus Aircraft parts and they are usually good. But that was back when people actually would pack shit to last. The oldest surplus part I came across was dated 1945 on the outside of the box. The box was rotten, but after you dug through all 3 layers of beeswax and cheesecloth and scraped the cosmoline off (a bucket of gas helps a lot) it was just like it left the factory yesterday.

Which is why I am afraid this is going to be toast. I hope I am wrong. I'm not too much of a Mo par fan, but it's still a shame.

maybe the rust we are seeing is because the inside of the doors and frame etc..didnt have the cosmoline put on it so it is internally rusted..im sure the engine is locked up..and the fuel tank is probably rusted out..under the hood..the engine block..all the places you cant see..Really im being optimistic!!

Damn! That's Elvis Shawntel, who was a boxer before becoming a "loan administrator." I wonder if he donated the car?

I wonder if the people that buried her could have known that when she was dug up,there would be No Plymouth and Toyota would be the #1 car maker.

  10. Did McNamar Boiler and Tank construct the vault? If they'd used boiler construction techniques the car would be ready for the road in a week. It appears they instead used septic tank construction and as septic tanks do, the contents turned to shit.

Looking at that picture - what a waste of a beautiful car. The '57-58 Plymouth hardtops are some of the best looking cars from the 1950s and it is in a choice color combination.

    Oh well...

I was reading an article about this car in the doctor's waiting room about two months ago. It was only two or three paragraphs long but one thing they did say if it came out in a semi-sound condition it should bring $100,000.00 at auction. I believe that was in a reader's digest book.

Well we cant deny the fact that its an interesting story and it was nice to think in our minds at what it could have been, even though its not going to turn out that way. Its still an interesting piece of history and a great story.

I wonder who the lucky winner of the car will be and if they'll even care.

From today's Tulsa World paper online:

Despite the discovery, organizers said late Wednesday that they think the car may be in reasonably good shape.

"It's not a rust bucket," said Art Couch of W.N. Couch Construction, after he and Jim Taylor of Taylor Crane examined the steel skid on which the car rests.

"We felt the sides of the car and it's solid," Couch said.

Might as well have sat it on the bottom of a lake for 50 years, but if they can restore to flying condition a P-38 buried in 300 feet of ice for 60 years, who knows whats possible.

Yeah, but have you seen how much of the P38's they used?? 90% was new build as the original structure was too crushed. They took almost three whole airframes out of the ice and still didn't get anything other than templates. Wast of time fixing it, they would give it to Boyd and he'd make it all out of billet!
Plus a P38 is a little harder to come by than a 57 Plym!............
    Or so I'm told.

Doc, only 1 airframe came out of Greenland and it was relatively intact. The rest are still there. There are multiple teams in a race to pull the remaining airframes out.

sorry to sidetrack the post but the read on the P-38 "Glacier Girl" is quite interesting, only one plane was mentioned as being recovered.

Yup, it was more 95% of the airframe was re-used, not the other way around.
Glacier Girl is actually one of the most original P-38's in existance.
