What we have is a 50 merc that was stored indoors for the last 20 or so years. Were just wanting to see if the ole girl will start. We pulled the plugs put some marvins mystery oil in the cylinders. It's spins over freely but the ignition switch is broke. What's the easiest way to bypass the ignition switch so we can get power to the distributor and coil? Thanks for any help. As a side note the lights worked and nothing popped smoked or caught fire when we put the new battery in.
I think you should let me come and take it off your hands. That way you don't have to worry about it.
But actually you should be able to cross the wires on the back of the switch. Kinda like hot wiring a car......... :0
Just pull the tumbler out of the switch. Push forward on the back side of the switch. Then turn the face ring and out it comes. Locate the 1/16" roll pin on the top side of the switch and use a pair of needle nose to pull it out. Now you can take the tumbler to a locksmith and get a key cut. Also you can turn the switch with a screw driver to the On position. The Wizzard
