Off the top of my head, this is what is in the garage right now...

Mad Fab, Black Monday, Speedbuggy, Bleed, Bill Haley, Two Timing Three, Deke Dickerson, Social D, Johnny Burnette, the Camaros, Johnny Cash Sun, and Lee Rocker.

And I see it's been mentioned a couple times, (thanks!) so here is the shameless plug for the Hot Rod Hucksters website, new and improved with online ordering! :D

    No "fence" taken...
 The ironic part is that Gregg and Duane grew up just down the road from me in Macon.

There was a song on the top 40 back in the mid seventies that had lyrics of something like "it's a family affair, it's a family affair"..... I had a girl friend that went around for months singing "it's a family o bears, it's a family o bears, mama bear, papa bear.......... I finally couldn't stand it one day and busted out laughing Once she learned how long I (as well as friends) had been laughing behind her back she never sang it again.

  13. We listen to this kind of stuff at Hotrod Garage:

    Nora Jones

    The Ink Spots (1940's)

Charles Brown with Johnny Moore and his Three Blazers (1940's)

    Deadbolt-Hobo Babylon and Voodoo Trucker

    Temple of the Dog

    Pearl Jam- certain songs

    Robert Cray

    Stevie Ray Vaughn

    Dusky Daily (1930's blues)

    Django Rienhardt (1930's)

we like to play the music that was on the airwaves when the old tin in the garage was new, drink some beer and wrench.

    Hey Bubba-

try anything from Johnny Cash on his live prison albums (live at San Quentin, Live at Folsom Prison) or Hank Williams SR. You'll get an education about where today's music comes from, and you'll wonder why you don't drink whiskey more often....

    The Sonics -- YES!

Also I gotta say, I'm glad to hear that someone else is into The Kaisers. I have no idea if they are still together, but check out The Wildebeests for more great Scottish garage. Some of the same guys as in the Kaisers.

If you're into 'garage,' check out Montreal's 'Les Sexareenos', '14 frenzied shakers' is a great album. Wow.

    For something with twang,
    Wayne Hancock
    Hanks numbers 1 and 3,
    Junior Brown.
    hmmm.

But you're looking for rockabilly, eh?
Right now, my number one is:
The Johnny Burnette-led 'Rock and Roll Trio.' If you wan't stripped down original rockabilly, you can't do better than 'Honey Hush' or 'Train Kept a' Rollin'. Wow. Great songs.

    Ray Campi is pretty good.
    So is Sleepy La Beef.
    Ronnie Dawson.
    Charlie Feathers.
    Man, there's lots.

Lately I've been really into these crazy compilation albums, like the stuff Buffalo Bop puts out. The 'Desperate Rock and Roll' series also has some real odd jems.

As for the newer rockabilly, I find a lot of it pretty boring.

'The Go Getters' -- 'Rock and Roll is Everywhere' is a great album. Their other ones are so-so IMHO.

If you're into the Clash and you like Rockabilly, check out 'The Farrell Bros.' I've never heard another band that sounds like them, and that's something in itself.

'Big Sandy' has some great stuff.

    hmm.

I'm glad somebody mentioned 'Too Fast For Love'. I do a ridiculous half-tempo acoustic version of 'Live Wire'. Good for a laugh. My only blackouts apparently involve the B-side of Use Your Illusion 1...

Man, I'll listen to almost anything. Almost.

The two albums that I listen to pretty much everyday are:

    The Gories: Outta Here
DEVO: Pioneers Who Got Scalped The Anthology

(complete opposites yet both so powerful)

    Others include:

    The Oblivians
    BBQ
    Hasil Adkins
    Mr. Airplane Man
    The Spits
    Johnny Thunders
    The Saints
    The Lost Sounds
    Radio Birdman
    The Reigning Sound
    The Defectors

    + many many more

The only thing I really honestly listen to other than a few Cds of mine are cassette tapes I've recorded of the Wayback Machine radio show out of St Louis. www.garagepunk.com

While the kids around here are driving around listening to new country or Ludacris or whatever I'm zoned out on my tapes including everything from old Fabulous Kansas City Playboys one minute to brand new Ponys stuff the next with stuff like Les Sexareenos, The Lyres, and Q65 in between.

I'm a bit dorky but I truly think that I love my tapes more than anything else I have except for maybe my sketchbook and Dwell magazines.
