I'm putting a 302 GMC in my 31 chevy pickup project. does anyone have an idea what size turbo i should look for? thinking about a draw through with a 600cfm 4 barrel and about 4-6 psi.. Jay D.
This is the turbo I am running on my Ford 300. I hope to get a bit more than 4-6 psi though.... You can set your waste gate to whatever peak boost you feel comfortable running, the bigger concern is to minimize turbo lag, and size the turbo to provide nice consistent air flow across a wide range of engine RPMS. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/TNT-12028
This site https://fordsix.com/forums/turbo-supercharger-and-nitrous.22/ has plenty of info on just about any possible turbo combo on a six. While it is O/T in part and not GMC based I surmise you'll find all the salient details you'll need there.
There has been a ton of advancements in not only the Turbos themselves, but how they plumb them, the types of wastegates, intercoolers, throttle bodies, etc.. I would spend some time looking into quite a few of the complete systems and talk to folks who build/install custom ones. You may find that EFI is a better way to go, but that sort of makes the whole thing "off topic". Also, align your expectations with your budget . . . as once you start getting into all the more advanced setups - the price starts making the turbo itself look cheap!
