i was reading some other post somewhere and i'm seeing some mentions of vacuum line for the 350 ******. could this be affecting my downshifting? do they use vacuum to power kickdown function?

that vacuum line is for the modulator that is on the p*** side of the transmission. that is for upshifting, does not do anything with downshifting. I had to unhook my throttle kickdown cable when I went to tripower, havent had any issues yet, but I tell you what if that vacuum line comes off of the modulator you will know it. Joe

If the kickdown lever is stuck in the wot (wide open throttle position) it will affect the upshifts, and possibly the downshifts. Make sure that the cable is free and is in the normal, not w.o.t. position if you are not using it.
