Hey all! I'm scratching my head at an odd electrical issue, and figured maybe getting some extra minds on it would help. I'm working on a slightly OT car (later 60s Newport stocker), replacing the signal cam and fixing some other electrical things. To start with, the signals were not flashing at all. I replaced the signal cam (broken cancel tabs) and got it all working, and then when I installed a new flasher it clicks constantly. I've fiddled with the contacts on the cam, tried several different flashers, still just constant clicking. I haven't really trouble shot it much, just looking to brainstorm some ideas of what might be the culprit.
A flasher, the old style mechanical ones, are nothing more than a circuit breaker. If you have no lights flashing outside or on the dash..., then you have a short, or a draw on the output side of the flasher. .
I'd have to agree with there being a short somewhere. Most likely between the flasher and the switch.
Is the blinker fluid reservoir full? A low level will cause all kinds of problems. <my apologies, I couldn't help myself> Chappy
i can not remember which car i worked on that used a special flasher. i thought it was a late 50's pontiac. what was the part number on the original flasher? how did the canceller fix a no flash problem?
