Hot Rods Turn Signal Toggle

Any body use one of those Ron Francis turn signal toggle switch? Any issues? I would like to get rid of the column mount signal device.

 

Use a two-way momentary,3 pole{ springs back to center off} has power center,an on to each side.
Place were EZ to reach with left hand>Blinker pot,is in power side center/so work when switch is on; when left or right is being held. Simple and you don't forget it. Stops as soon as your not holding.

 

No on switch you showing /asking .

If not using LED rear , take the trailer converter out ,, 2nd pic a optional way. & added a headlight switch
Wiring just in case

 

Do you have separate signal lights? I wanted to just run tail lights, may run indicator lights on the front

 

I saw those, starting to tread into Rocket science for my pea brain

 

I use the U-P 32 led rear , I know most do not care for ,, about 15 yrs ago In day I was behind a family members 32
It was hard to see brake lights , 12v even with the buckets painted flat white ,
So I have ran Leds on A & 32 since

 

I used the American Autowire switch......never a problem.

 

Those toggles are a bit pricy, they must be configured specifically for turn signals.

 

Yeah, I've had mine for quite a few years......they've came up considerably in price.

 

I have it in my car. Separate turn indicators up front. the back go through my taillights.
works great, but my issue was i would forget to turn it off. I wired lights to little lights in my dash so I can see when it is on, so I know to turn off after.

 

I'm still looking for a loud flasher that work's. I did buy the expensive one but it only lasted two days and they don't sell it any more. Why is that not an easily doable fix

 

So the switch is not momentary? I’ll have to install pilot lights. Arrrg more engineering

 

I have the Ron Francis kit in two of my cars, one has been in for close to twenty years. The switches are not momentary you have to turn them off, so a loud flasher and a visible dash light are good additions to go with it. I thought about buying parts separate but the kit they offer takes the guesswork out of it and works great.

 

Two toggle switches on a little panel made of aluminum angle under the dash. one for left, one for right both connected to the same flasher with indicator lights on the dash. That gives me left turn, right turn or 4 way flashers but I have to remember to shut them off. Cost = under 10 bucks when I did it probably a few bucks more now. I have separate brake and tail light bulbs on the 48 and didn't worry about feed back to the front turn lights from the brake lights but the dual switches such as a Cole Herse 55019 can separate front turn and rear turn/brake circuits.

 

You must not have tinnitus…..my wife hears my pickup all the time when I leave it on..

I know Ron Francis has a very good reputation but you can get that switch on eBay for $10.

 

I used a Ron Francis Turn Signal Toggle Switch. It was expensive but appears to be very good quality. However, there be others just as good. I used a stand alone setup with separate (not tied into taillights or parking lights) LED front and rear lights and also two small indicator lights in the dash. All LED. Very simple to wire with no relay due to very low amperage draw. I mounted the toggle just under the dash with the lever pointing down on the left side of the steering wheel. The indicator lights help you remember to turn them off as the car is too loud to hear clicking from the flasher. Very simple and clean and has proven reliable. Your mileage may vary.

 

You can also scavenge a turn signal switch out of about anything but out of a GM 70 or later makes it simpler and make a little holder and stick it under or behind the dash with a stub of a handle on it and have one that works great for probably 0 except for wire terminals. I'd have to go dig in my junk and see if I had a column with a switch left that I didn't haul for scrap but making the mount for it is going to be the hard part that requires thinking. Some rod magazine did an how to on it back years ago but I can't remember which one.

 

How about something more traditional from vintage parts suppliers.

 

Flashers with an integral buzzer are readily available and are really cheap. I have one and it works fine. I say fine, but I hate the sound of the thing, so I only tend to indicate when I have to and look to get it switched off as quickly as possible!

I've used the American Autowire one in all my cars. Never a problem. Super easy wiring into the brake lights.

 

I used the litenboltz green as indicators in my 30 model a dash and a pezio beeper to tell me to shut it off. On my stockish 6v 29 model a I used the beeper as well and the stock little light that came in the signal switch. On my 36 I used the litenboltz green again for indicators but skipped the beeper this time. Might add it later if I ever get it drivable and leave the stupid blinker on. It’s easy to just tap into the switch wire and add dash indicators or add the beeper. Beeper works really really well.

 

Thanks for the heads up on the beeper, I’m always leaving my signal on. I had to look up litenboltz, thought it was some exotic German thing.

 

There are motorcycle 2 pin flashers with in built beeper, and also self canceling modules.

Search vintage indicator switch on UK eBay, lots to be found.

The lower on pictured above is very Land Rover - ish. Some are available with a lit (lighted) toggle.

They are the chrome bolts one above ignition switch and the other center dash. They took the place of the regular chrome screws holding dash on.

 

Also put them in my 36 while adding turn signals, and bright light indicator. Had to put a resistor on the bright indicator it would melt your eyes at night.
