a couple cars that i liked as a kid were captain midnight's and the hot corvette driven by T.H.E Cat. it was a summer replacement in about 1966 that starred robert loggia.

I was watching this show a couple days ago, and there was a place where they cut between scenes, and the short scene between was a shot of traffic on a street. And the weird thing was, it looked like it was from the 1940s! not a modern late 50s car in sight. Maybe it was some old stock footage they added, because no one would catch it. I had to pause and rewind to check the scene again, it was definitely out of place in the show.

But back then they didn't have pause and rewind on TV sets, either :)

  6. I "found" one of these U.S. based "customising" type shows (I can't remember the name) while I was channel surfing late one night. They got some guy's Barracuda or something similar, that he had from his college days and they pretended it had been stolen while it was being "customised". The goons on the show threw all the original trim, wheels and other bits into the "trash" with glee, and then put a horrible 2000's interior into it, along with big clown wheels, graphics and- I still don't know why- multiple TV sets, with one underneath the car! That was enough to stop me watching those shows. I have seen a couple of British shows where they actually take you through overhauling a carb or changing a clutch, no "movie stars" or staged tantrums.

    Hello,

As far as a hot rod/drag race scenario, the most interesting concept was this show. It was a coming of age theme and included some OT cars, but the idea of building ones own car with skills learned was the background concept.

Everything from top of the rung to challengers building “the” car to take down the top dog, locally. Stuffy car collectors that needed to grab everything fast and loud for the multiple collection, just to have “more.” All included in a teen show with some background that reverberates for all of us hot rod/drag race teens from way back then.

Some of the OT ideas and what was shown could be exchanged with the top dog who owned a 32 ford with a powerful SBC motor ruling the roost, so to speak. But to connect with younger audiences, the current teenage scene was selected, with a few ideas from the early hot rod build days. YRMV

It may not be for some folks’ idea of teenage hot rods, as the reference is usually OT. But, there are enough ideas and concepts for the growth of a teenager into a confident motor builder for the times.
