I couldn't get this out of my head since seeing it at Turlock swap meeting a little while ago. There was a guy that was selling dropped axles and he had a I-beam that he had twisted in spiral form with at least 4 complete turns each side from the center. I looked cool as a art form but could something like that even be run safely in a car? I wish I got a picture of it but I didn't. What y'all think?
Publicity stunt by ford for world fairs and such to show how good they are ……. Not meant to run
And proof positive that forged axles are safer than cast,,, Try twisting a cast axle and see what happens. HRP
There's one hanging in the Speedway Museum. I'm sure it's longer than 3 feet. I wouldn't be scared to use it in a car.
Look at the size of the gears in the machine doing the twisting...Be a bitch to drill holes in the beam for looks..
Yeah, it was Indian Larry who made frames that way. He also used chain with the links welded together as the frame for the bike he died on. Never did hear, but I wonder if the frame broke on that one. Sad. He built some pretty cool stuff.
Yup, Idian Larry had quite a few bikes with twisted down tube frames. He did die, but, it had nothing to do with a frame failure. He fell from his motorcycle while standing on the seat at 40mph or so.
