I am looking at this car to buy. It's in great shape however I have a few concerns. It has not ran in about 20 years but motor turns freely and its very complete. The roof at some point was fully skinned in thin galvanized sheet metal screwed on. From inside the sides of roof look to be in great shape. Wood Bowes and all. Just going to be a painremoving the gal. Stuff.
I do not know model A very well but the doors overlap by about an inch when closed. Is that how they were? They latch but it just does not look right.

I can get it for under $3k. Is that good even though it isnt running? Tires hold air it'd all complete just needs a mechanical spruce up. I know it's hard to saw without seeing it.

Sounds to me like it might be worth the price, but you can always try to negotiate the price down more. Pics will tell the story. The doors do overlap, that's normal.

EDIT, added these up top, same pics. Notice the rough roof line in picture one, thats the galvanized sheet, original looks really good from inside. Here are the pics I have, not the best, but it got dark quick when I looked at it.

  6. Restore or Hot Rod ? If you are rodding it, then you are buying a body and frame only, maybe sell off the stock stuff for 500 bucks. 2500 worth body and frame ?

  7. Can't see it but a lot of fellas are giving in the 1-2K range for projects that are not very complete at all.

I personally would not be concerned with the drive train except to have it to sell.

It would stay original, maybe lower stance with some steel wheels. Id like to run this drivetrain if its usable.

It also has a clear title from second owner. Thats the big thing I like about it.

I'm not seeing any reason to think twice on it honestly. A lot of guys pay 2000 to 2500 for little more than a shell. That thing has bumpers, seats, lights, glass, drivetrain. I've got a '29, I wish it came with all that! As swade41 says, if you plan to rod it you've got some good merch to sell off and kickstart your project. If your thinking stock, do you think you'd find another that already has all the goodies for that price?

BTW, yes the doors on these overlap.

  17. from what i can see in the pictures , the drivers door could be brought in a bit. it appears the gap is wide , but even. a lot of model A's will be tight on top and hang way out in the bottom. i worked REAL hard on my `28 tudor to get the doors fit right

  18. I would have already payed for it at the asking price. Complete ones in that shape are hard to find. Good luck with your project. You won't regret this.

I don't think the price is bad.
And when you are smiling working on it.
you won't think of that at all.
    Congrats!

I don't know anything about the deal , but that is a VERY fair price, so i wouldn't play used car dealer and offer less and risk loosing the car and pissing off the owner. Bob

Price strikes me as somewhere between "fair" and "screaming deal." So you really can't go wrong. Plus the fact that it's titled and local to you. Post more pics when you get it!

As others stated the door overlap is stock. I've seen many Model A's that have had sheet metal screwed over the roof, including my coupe, just have to check for rot in the wood for the roof. Model A's are a simple car, easy to work on. Ford built 5 million of them, so parts are easy to come by.

With a clear and up to date title I'd say it's worth the asking price. In most parts of the country you won't get a lot of car for that price Model A wise. With the constant title hassles we read about on here I'd say that the clear title that matches the numbers on the car is worth 500 of the asking price for the hassles it solves. Any decent piece that you decide not to use can readily be sold to put money back in the kitty and reduce the original investment.

  27. Get it home and get it running. Clear title and loose engine, plus it looks like most everything is there. Oh, yeah, snatch it up and start working on it.

  28. Looks good and I would go for it at that price if that was the car I wanted. One minor thing, the radiator shell is a '31 (they are different but interchangeable). Where is the number on the vehicle that you are comparing to the title? Originally the number was on the left side of the engine and on the top left frame rail under the body. What is the number (use XXX for the last 3 digits)?

Congratulations for stepping right up and not wasting time for advice and losing the car! Looks like you have a good one, pretty complete and solid. The best way to buy an old car.
