So far I've never taken out a 3rd pedal to go to 2. But I have gone from 2 to 3.
Nothing wrong with an automatic, they have their place too.

I have one of each, guess that makes me a tranny.

Somewhere on YouTube there is a video of a guy running an automatic Thunderbolt Fairlane column, shifter, and all. I’d say the two foot high wheels up launches that carry out for more than 60 feet while shifting a column shifter qualified as a man shifter, even though a woman could probably do it better. Just ask her.

The best thing about manuals is the push starting aspect...when you run down the battery while using the stereo:rolleyes::p

Some of the old automatics could be push started.

That's right...if they have the pump in the back of the tranny, from what I understand

narrow cowl with higher engine placement limits pedal space so auto may be better choice

Getting past the guys who think which transmission they have has something to do with penis length, this is a serious question I'm mulling over right now. Nex project is my '49 Merc. Got a rebuilt 401 Nailhead, and all the goodies to put a 4 speed in it. But being past 6 decades, back issues, etc., I'm rethinking this. A Switch Pitch, or even a 700R4 is starting to make some sense.

I had heard once about some Harley Davidson white pads but could never figure out how to buy em. I would put them on my Impala in a minute if they would fit

The rectangular pedal I was thinking but it has a Harley Imprint on it.

Yes, Harley Davidson. They are actually too big for my pedals. I am thinking about making a steel plate that bolts to the stock pedals that fits tight on the pads since there is already a hole in them. I will let you know the measurements and explain a little better.

IMHO; If you have a flathead & expect anything similar to performance, you better have 3 pedals!

Giving a choice I prefer a stick. My '96 OT pickup truck has a five speed stick in it.
Maybe I'll stumble across the pieces I need to put a manual back into my 41 Cadillac that has an incorrect early overhead valve Cadillac V8 in it.

I've been staying away from jumping into this. But anyway here goes. In HS I had a '65 Falcon 2 dr. wagon with a 289 and C4. I replaced the trans with a 3 speed full syncro from a wrecked '64 Comet. Part of the belief that automatics sucked. A year or so later it got a T-10 with a hopped up 289. Sold it when Uncle Sam called. Had a variety of other rides both auto and standard since then. My current daily '39 p/u has a tranny I got from the owner of the local muffler shop. The trans I had was on it's last legs and he had a perfect one from a convertible that he removed for a C4 because he couldn't use a clutch any more. Now fast forward over 50 years from my HS days of changing an auto to standard and now I'm replacing the Y block and 3 speed in my '54 Ranch Wagon with a 302/AOD combo. So I guess at 74 I've gone full circle.

Whatever the vehicle owner prefers. Why should there be conformity when the idea of Hotrods and Customs are supposed to be the polar opposite of conformity.
