There seems to be a few really sharp guys on this board so I thought Id ask this question. Has anyone ever shortened the height on a two post lift. I spoke to a rep from Rotary about a lift I have the chance to buy ( dirt cheap ) but its higher than what I could fit. I was told it could be made higher but it cant be made lower. Why not? I know there's cables that would have to be shorter but would it be possible to shorten the height. Im talking about going from 12' to say 10'6" If anyone has successfully done this Id sure like to know how it was done and if there is actually a reason it cant be done Id like to know that reason.
Ryan’s other site garagejournal.com may be the place to find good information. I read threw posts about lifts there pretty regularly
I had a friend that shortened a two post lift, but unfortunately he has p***ed away. I would imagine that it would depend on the design. I didn't have to modify mine, so I have never looked to see what would have to be done to shorten it. I do know that the design of mine was quite different from the design of his two poster. The only thing I could suggest, would be to do a web search on your brand of lift to see if you can find a drawing that would help you build a better picture. Another thought, would be to contact the manufacturer. Bob
