This is what the rear of $40-a-pair fenders looks like...

And this is how I fixed them... hammer welded. At 8am... Again, my neighbors LOVE me, I'm sure of it.:D:D:D

    Wow, what a difference!

Ya know A, your starting to piss me off! Wheel cylinders for my Desoto cost $45 a piece for the fronts, and the car uses FOUR of em. Luckily, i found a complete set of evilbay for $70.

PS hows that aircleaner on the battery charger work? I never thought of that, must extend the life of the charger indefinatly!

See? You should have built this and sold me the Desoto.

Ahahaha! Hey I'll try anything once! My dad gave me that charger when he upgraded, I can't believe it still works, it's lived a hard life, only has one clamp left, the cord has broken and been shortened so many times it's only about two feet long!:D

Floorwork is progressing... Tank is in... Got my new window/windshield seals in the mail today from Joe Smith Early Ford in VA, best prices-FAST shipping! I worked the door alignment over pretty good, they both shut nicely now. Bolted the front fenders on and installed the hood hinges. My buddy Jrblack30 is delivered a pair of smithy's on sat, hoping to have the fenders all patched up and the driveshaft made this weekend! Vroom, vroom!

  7. I had Fleetpride redo the drive shaft in my coupe because it was too short. Dropped it off at 12:00 picked it up at 4:00 same day cost me around $150. Trucks looking good Andy.

I shorten them myself on the bench on a pair of V-blocks. My dad used to build them for all the drag racers in the machine shop he worked at, he showed me a few tips and helped me shorten a few... I've only ever had to send one out for balancing. If you have an existing shaft that's already balanced and you get it welded up with less than 0.020" of runout they usually spin nice and smooth.

I might have to call Fleetpride and see if they have a slipyoke. I can't seem to find one for a TH350... stupid, I know!

Got a few pieces of rubber from Coker... Hung the Smithy's Jrblack30 dropped off today, they sound GREAT! Also welded up about 500 cracks in the hood and fenders. I've got some patching to do and then it's on to wiring this sum***** up!

I also broke the roadster out of jail, Jrblack30 and Bcharlton stopped by in his new '32 5w for alittle electrical troubleshooting. The neighborhood kids stopped by and I filled all their bike tires with air. Man... it was a great day!

I'm beginning to think I should have done the same thing you did bodywise with my '51. Spent the whole day trying to smooth out the lower front fender pieces and got Bondo Boogers for my efforts. Bodywork ****s. If you don't have a wiring harness yet check out Rebel Wire. I got one for $185 to the door and its a real nice harness, with all the GM plugs, doodads and ***orted da kine (Hawaii slang for gizmo's). :D
By the way, I like that Roadster!

    Thanks fellas!

Eli, this truck will not win any body/paint trophy's that's for SURE, haha! But I don't want it rattling/falling apart going down the road, so anything structural will definitely be shored up/patched... But that's where it ends. No filler will be used, gonna grind the welds down and brush paint the ****er. Makes for easy touch-up, hehe!

I've used rebel kits before, they are definitely quality and by far the best value out there. A p.o. made an attempt at rewiring this thing at some point and there's a perfect GM fuse panel already mounted... so being ULTRA-budget conscious on this truck, I'll use that panel and a few partial rolls of primary wire I have on the shelf and do the deed myself on this one.

    Thanks Kevin!

Getting sorta burnt out on cutting/grinding/welding on this thing so I decided to do some wiring today. I **** you fellas not when I say there were no fewer than 4 (FOUR!) headlight switches under the dash! Looks like when one switch quit they'd just leave it hanging under the dash and splice another one in.... weird. I actually used one of them for the ignition switch, pull all the way out to start, move in one notch to run, push in to stop, haha!

    Leftovers...

How is your fuse box mounted? I still gotta figure mine out and any tips you may have would be greatly appreciated.

I'll snap a pic tomorrow, the box that was in there is actually an old mopar unit, not GM like I thought. It has a metal tab with a few holes in it that I screwed right to the inside of the a-pillar below the dash. Easy to get to and out of the way at the same time.

Cool, I 'll keep my eyes open for your post. I like the idea of easy access, not that I expect any problems, but I'm an old fart that doesn't bend and twist like I used to.

Yeah, I actually used that same mopar fusebox in my '34 pickup. I like them, nice mounting bracket, they're labeled with their circuit and value, and they have the flasher in the center.

Finally found a slip yoke! Had to run out to the old yard on the reservation, they had piles of them.

  26. I went to that junk yard a few times. The last time we went there it was about 20 years ago we couldn't find any body that worked there. I walked in the shop and there were 3 dudes in there "chopping up" a late model mustang that was not wrecked. They flipped the **** out on us for walking in there I told the guy I didn't see **** then we haled *** out of there.

Don't let the pictures fool you... it's still a piece of ****, now it's just a one-color piece of ****.:p

I installed the new front and rear gl***, wired and installed the taillights, bought some tractor paint and cheep brushes and went to town. DE SOTO is gonna ship me a running board, too bad it's coming from CA... paid more to ship it than for the part! Oh well, I really need one to finish this klunker. Goin to the DMV this week, wish me luck!:D
