I have a pretty healthy sbc 350.....10:1 with a decent roller cam, do you think I could get enough out of a pair of Stromberg 48's to make it run strong enough and not starve the motor, I can make my own jets but if the cfm is not there it just may not get it done.

In my opinion that would be calling it a little close ( 320cfm) but I would bet a pair of 2110 Holley's (480) would give you ample plus the eye candy you are after. Wouldn't be a terrior, but if you wanted that you would be using dual quads.

The Holley 94's with the large bases eventially had up to 1 3/16's or 1 3/8??? venturis they will flow much better anouther option on the 48's is they can be Bored out i'm sure some of the old racers could give you the details on that

Thanks guys I could run 3 48's or 4 97's but my idea was two carbs for a real nice set of early air cleanrs I have, I guess I can't have the best of both so the air cleaners will have to wait for the next project.

I know a guy who runs a pair of 48's on a Y adapter on his SBC with no problems....
It'll run fine, but it may run outta steam early.....
I have 4 97's running progressive, and it pulls pretty hard on just the 2 primaries....

Sixcarb, I had two holley 94's ( or maybe they were 2100 holleys , i cant recall)on an adapter mounted to a z-28 manifold on my 350 that made an honest 300 hp WITH a 4 bbl. The motor pulled like a steam train up to about 3500 rpm then ran right out of power. It would have been ok if I never had to p*** anyone and never wanted to put my foot in it. I believe it would have run better if I could have used rodchestor 2 bbl carbs on it instead of the old holleys , but al*** I'll never know. Best of luck, Mike

I don't buy into all those CFM calculator things. In my opinion, a very mild stock type sbc needs at least 600cfm and with a little more cam and better heads at least 750cfm. A real stout sbc can use 850+ cfm.

I guess you can get by on less but I don't like my car to run overly lean or be slower than it needs to be.

You need the X1 Edelbrock I have. Then you can run 6-97s!!!!

    Now your talking CFM!

Maybe. 2 would be 350 CFM. The Ford 351C-2V 2 bl carb is rated at 350, & they seem to move along quite nicely.

The healthier the heads and with the right cam, the motor will **** air a lot more efficiently than you would think. In some cases, velocity of a well flowing engine will take over.

Obviously the car would probably "run" on one of them, but it's not going to run very well in the top end with two. Try it and see what happens. If it's not enough, borrow any decent dual plane and a 600-800 and see what you are missing.
