  1. I've heard bonnet enough in my life to know what your talking about but donk is a new one on me, here in the South when we say donks we are referring to those stupid big wheels. HRP

    I was shocked nobody knew what a monkey motion motor was not too long ago. And yeah our brit brothers pronounce the L in solder.

    Don't forget that those eyesores are a recent phenomena. I'm referring to the '70s in Australia when a donk was a good bit of gear under the bonnet.

    Carby is too much slang, but one that really rubs me wrong, is a hick use of the word chunk.

    American English evolved to be tidier and leas cluttered than the version of British English was at the time.
    At least, that was the intent.

    Slang is slang, colloquialisms exist and that's all good.

    Donk is the engine. Quite often you would see a sign on the back of a car saying, "don't honk, new donk", in "Straya" back in the day.
