I've done a good bit of searching on here, but have not had any luck. Is there a u-joint that will connect a stock 55 Ford driveshaft to a yoke for an FMX transmission. They seem to be different diameters on each cross.
I didn't have any luck when I looked.... I ended up having the driveshaft cut, putting the early Ford rear u-joint on a newer driveshaft. Problem solved....
You might try this: http://****erparts.com/resources/measuring-u-joints ****er makes more odd-ball joints than anyone else.
I just had to get some conversion u-joints the other day. Advance Auto has a Precision book that has a chart with all different ones listed by dimension. Just take some calipers and start measuring. After finding the Precision part number I had them cross reference it to Moog and all is well.
the 55 is basically all the same size ( weird cross dimension ) but the FMX has 2 yoke cup sizes so that you really need to know that plus get the cross size , take the yoke with you to get that measured up .
Look up a Car Quest u-joint catalog online. Oh, here you go. http://www.carquestprofessionals.com/catalogs/drivetrain/2013_UJ_CATALOG_CQ.PDF The beauty of this 196 page do***ent is that you can find what possible joints your car takes and something to fit the rear end yoke. Towards the back they have dimensions of every joint made (just about..) and a selection of combination joints. Once you get the CQ number, there is a cross reference to other manufacturers. For the rear end yoke, you narrow it down to the cup diameter and distance between the caps. Happy hunting!
