U-Joint woes....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by coololdcars, Mar 4, 2013.

  1. So I'm workin' away on my Henry J. Got the driveshaft done, and it won't fit. Have a 350 Pont. engine, 400 Turbo and a Chevy 12 Bolt out of a 69 Chevelle. The u-joint on the Pont. driveshaft is about 1/2 inch wider than the 12 bolt yoke. Also a little larger in diameter. Can I get a Pontiac yoke to fit the 12 bolt. or do I need to find some weird u-joint.....

Check your die mentions and call oreillys in the am. You may have a 1330/1350 and need a 1310?

  3. Yep, pretty much an "over the counter" fix.

  4. Its a stock U-joint for a 77 Firebird...Thats what the shaft was out of.

Last time I went thru this I went to the napa website and did a u joint search with all the differant variables to see whats available and came up with what I needed. I figured to look this up myself than waste my time with some 20 yr old behind the counter that didn't know anything.

Simple conversion ujoint needed, NAPA has them but I do not have the PN in front of me. Get one end the same as the 77 firebird and get the other end the same as the 12 bolt..the 12 bolt came with two different size yokes, one used straps and bolts that thread into the yoke, smaller one uses U bolts and nuts. If you have the U bolt and nut style it is the same as a 10 bolt from the same year, so if you have issues looking up the size ask for one end to be the same as a 69 chevelle 10 bolt. I think the chevelle side is a 1310.

  9. OK, NAPA has a U-joint !! Its a NAPA Precision brand number 372!!!!! Large Pontiac type with the inner clips to smaller GM type to fit with the u-bolts!!! Thanks all...BTW for those of you following Gene Cromers Willys build, I got the Henry J ch***is from Gene. He only needed the front brakes for the Moonlighter. I needed a frame, Gene needed a metalflake blue steering wheel for the Willys. Done DEAL !!!
