Finally bringing this home... Went and visited it and made arrangements to get it to my place. I paid for it last September

Looks like it will be a lot less work to get this truck roadworthy than it would have for that 35 Chvey 5 W... [IMG]

Charlieled, there is a local shop building a Packhard coupe from a sedan and using an engine like yours with a six speed.
They sent the manifolds and heat shields to Streetrod and Performance in Mena, Ark.
the manifolds were ceramic coated and the heat shields chromed.
    Talk about a killer effect?
    Really looks nice.

I have seen the manifolds ceramic coated and it does look nice. I was thinking about polishing the heat shields though. I have a set of LS6 manifolds that I will be installing before I put the rest of the exhaust system together.

Car related, but not real ones... The weather was nice here, so I sat outside at the table and did some model building. I'm working on a 1/8th scale 65 Corvette Dragster model. It's going to be a inline twin v-8, much like the "Freight Train", but with a topless vette body laying low over the chassis. Should be neat, with the driver at the very rear, and two engines sticking out in the middle.

Anyhow, last fall I had cut off the roof, and cut the body in half at the rear of the doors to lengthen it. I had already added some 90mm long filler panels on the sides, but I screwed up. I attached them at the rear section, so when I went join the front half, the shapes were all wrong... it didn't have that sexy "coke bottle" shape anymore... more like a pinched coke bottle. So, I cut the panels off, and put them on the front half to align them better. Well, in the process I managed to warp the shit out of part of it. I'm using a soldering iron and "welding" things together, so I can melt and tweak things to fit. Next weekend i'll get the whole mess together if i'm lucky...

    Here's a early mock-up, testing the layout:

Went to Hot Rods by Dean and picked up the early Ford wishbone that Russ Meeks gave me. Dean used a bitchin' saw to split it for me. I gave him a Bill Drake T-shirt and he was truly stoked.

Took the paint off my coupe's right front fender, which I had thought was too rough to bother with, and found that it's a lot better than it looked when I got it. Now I can stop searching for a better one.

Took care of a friend's dog while he went to band rehearsal, and installed three huge cabinets in my office while she watched.

Worked at polishing the front axle, Halibrand front brake calipers and headlight stands for the roadster.

Ordered my fourth batch of T-shirts from the screenprinter.

On Friday night and most of Saturday, I updated 103 of the 105 pages on my Web site. I checked the site's statistics, and found that last month it got more than 2.3 million hits, and was visited by people on more than 95,000 different computers.

It was my birthday on Sunday. I shared a microwave burrito with the dog, had some ice cream, and then fell asleep on the carpeted floor in the showroom, while she watched.

HA! That's for sure! BUT... if I had the skills and talent and knowhow, I would have taken that 35 any day. But since I'm just a little greasemonkey who does mechanical stuff, I'll take the 55. I can't wait to see how your 35 ends up. I'm just going to clean this 55 up, stick in a rebuilt 283/PG and drive the snot out of it. Oh yeah... and this 55 cost me $500...

Got 49 years of grease and gunk off the trans. Started polishing the Buick drums. Brought home a '34 front end and started disassembly. Got the old shocks and shock mounts off. Had to let the king pins soak in Liquid Wrench. Got my new bench vice and bench grinder mounted. And started playing around with the idea of a top chop. Messed around with geometry a bit. We'll see. Taught the daughters how to rake leaves and helped a friend move.

    I'm sore.

Fiance came down and spent some quality time with her and her son. Ruined that boy, drove him around in my 60 Buick. [IMG]

  11. Got the motor (59A/39 toploader) back in the Roadster...having trouble with the shifter...I'm sure I've got it lined up wrong. Looking to pull the 34 front sheetmetal off to get her ready for the scheduled cruzin this summer....it's all good!

  13. Made it up to DammitDaves in Sioux City and picked up an axle and wishbone for the coupe, and a bellhousing for Ravin. Didn't manage to get the bell to Ravin. Ooops maybe one evening this week. [IMG]
    Thanks Dave
Finished up the wireing, the fuel lines, and dropped the distributer in the Avanti. Found a problem with the exhaust (repostioned mill) that will have to be worked out.
A little thrashing and we'll be ready to light it off. [IMG]

  17. Pulled the top edge of the roadster body, behind the door, in about an inch. Makes the passenger door fit a whole bunch better! Repaired the split wood that fits behind the door post so's I'll have something solid to attach the inner panel to. Started fabricating all the missing nut plates that the dovetails, bumpers and striker attach to.
And getting ready to bend the wood that fits on top of the body, behind the seat back, and hope to have that done next weekend.

  18. Started a basic HAMB TECH post job....Turning an art deco thingo into a dash mounted Tach Pod....

Must remember to take pics before going on to next step...DAMMIT!

Need to re-locate a certain background, take a picture of it in front of said background, and then SELL it!

Hambers get first crack at it, of course. PM for details... classified post when I get that pic taken...
